An Irish Solution to Jobseeking

    From New York City:
Ah, nothing like convenience! Irish natives thirsty for a drink and some legal work can now head to a one-stop shop for both pints and employment: O'Casey's Restaurant and Irish pub in New York has converted its second floor into an unemployment center to help job-seekers find work.
The New York Daily News spotlights the unique bar/aid office on E. 41st St., called Fáilte 32 (Gaelic for welcome combined with the number of counties in Ireland), talking with owner Paul Hurley about his out-of-the box idea.
"We are not guaranteeing work, but we will place them in the right direction," says Hurley.
As the masses yearning to be free arrive on America's shore from the Emerald Isle, Hurley says there's a need to help them find work legally. He's aiming to use his position as head of the United Restaurant and Tavern Owners Association to place job-seekers.
"We are trying to help our community," he said. "Unemployment is through the roof in Ireland."
Now I'm just thirsty for a Guinness.

Lose job, get sad, go to pub, have a drink, feel better-ish, get a job, all in one easy roof. Who said jobseeking wasnt fun.

I can't think why the bar owner would want thousands of depressed people with redundancy cheques showing up at his bar?

    It all seems very altruistic.

I mean, what's in it for him?

FFS - we're stereotyped enough without the Yankie Oirish making it worse.

I'm sure they'll have a beer when they get there.

"Jobs, nah man, that was just a publicity stunt, want a beer?"

    "Sure why not"

He's bringing the mainline alcoholics and not the plastic paddys.

    Thinks big this guy.

He's aiming to use his position as head of the United Restaurant and Tavern Owners Association to place job-seekers.
This seems a bit unfair on people who aren't Irish. He's kind of admitting that he would rather hire Irish people over anyone else.

He is using his position to get people jobs, not to get irish people jobs, there's the subtle difference ;)

He clearly has a strong bias.

"We are trying to help our community," he said. "Unemployment is through the roof in Ireland."

Consumerist reads a bit tongue in cheek a lot of the time. Have you seen their golden poo award?

Its all factual but they love to make snide.

Of all the places I would think of emigrating to in order to get a job I think America would be pretty low down on my list.

Don’t they have huge unemployment problems of their own at the moment?

Not to stereotype our Irish American friends, of course...
