    So marketable.

With Woods no longer attractive to corporate America, guess who is going to cash in big time over there.

Class act could dominate golf in years to come. Pity he wasnt born a few 100 miles south.

who gives a fook where the lad is from .... Thats one special round of golf ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,235 ✭✭✭Dave147

In fairness to him he played some outstanding golf, think he was about 80-1 this morning but I fancied Mickelson to win it out, had 600 back off Mickelson if he did win, as all my other results were up but unfortunately Rory was far too good today.

Im absolutly delighted for the lad. Talk about closing out a tournament. Phenominal two rounds of golf over the weekend. It has answered the big question as to weather he can cut it under pressure with the best in the world and he certainly did that with a very strong field to contend with. He had to dig deep to get to co-leader and when he went in front he had Phil Mickleson and Angel Cabrera breathing down his neck. Dont know if ive ever seen a round of golf like it and he didnt miss anything all day.
And naturally due to his talent and success we want to claim him and so do the Brits but fair play to Rory for not even making that aspect of it an issue. What did wind me up last night was David Feherty saying on more than one occasion "The whole of Ulster will be proud" etc. The whole of Ireland is proud you plastic yank.

Feherty has form for bein an idiot, I wouldn't pay any attention to him. This is the man who said (I think about the famous stadium hole par 3 @ Arizona) "This hole reminds me of being home in Belfast - it's like a riot without the bombs" ... Way to improve the image of our country, Bud.

politics doesn't interest me in the slightest. To me, anyone born on this island of ours is Irish but sure, this is about golf and one of the absolute greatest rounds ever.

Sam Torrance has every right to be smug about his advice to Rory after his failure at the Masters; "you're 20 years old - you don't need a rest, get out there and win something !"
But a remarkable young golfer - we're all proud of him.

    Touche.

It is strange you play for Ireland at golf's world cup and Britain at the Olympics.

Whats even stranger is that theirs a British team at all. Why don't Scotland and Wales represent themselves as opposed to representing England for all intents and purposes.

They do in almost all other sports.

Interesting that you left Northern Ireland out of that.

Well mostly because Northern Ireland and Ireland have a lot of combined teams.

Rugby, Golf, eh, Polo? Cricket, Hockey...

Missus Sifter .... Are you that petty and that much of an antaganistic plank that you can't just be happy the Mcilroy destroyed the field in quail hollow without bringin up something that has nothing to do with golf whatsoever !!!

    let a life ......

As a British golf fan, of course i'm happy.

Where does one 'let a life' from exactly?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭stumpypeeps

As a British golf fan, of course i'm happy.

Good for you. Of course as the Golfing Union of Ireland provided a platform for Rory to learn and develop his skills perhaps you'll allow us to share some happiness in his win too.

Feherty sounded ridiculous referring to him as a Northern Ireland and an Ulster golfer. Everyone knows that in international terms there are only Irish golfers. Then he accuses Harrington of using well known Ulsterisms such as "youre a great bit of stuff", what a plank.
Feherty made his name in the US as the daft Irishman and boy does he live up to it.

Double posting the same thing doesn't make it right.

Why on earth is there the same old tired arguments about Rory.

The lad comes from Holywood, Northern Ireland and the members of Holywood are obviously very proud of him. The rest of the nonsense is irrelevant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭GorHugh

Feherty was over the top in his Ulsterness , but why not ? it's not as if they've had to much to shout about in recent times ... Let him enjoy the win . Who really gives a fook about the lads country of origin ? it was the best round of golf played in the last number of years by any golfer in the world !!

well done Rory you've done the Golfing world proud ...

cant see him changing to nike or dropping to that price anyway,I'd imagine it would be more like €140 million over 10 years
