I'm having trouble accessing my Macbook from my Vista laptop.

I've gone through all the steps such as enabling windows sharing etc on the mac book.

When I go to network on my vista laptop I can see the apple macbook but when I type in my username and password it tells me there incorrect. There the right username and password.

    Any ideas?

I'm using a Netopia router if that makes any difference...

I had similar issue before. Its usually caused be LM authentication

    Try this

To do it you need to alter the value of the LM authentication level to 2 in
    VISTA.
This can be done by the following steps:

    1) Click Start
    2) Click Control Panel (not classic view)
    3) Click System & Maintenance
    4) Click Administrative Tools
    5) Double Click Local Security Policy
    6) On the left pane, click to expand Local Policies
    7) On the left pane, click on Security Options
Now, on the right pane, near the bottom, click on
Network Security LAN Manager Authentication Level
    9) On the drop down, change the default setting (NTLMv2 only) to
Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated.

If its home addition you will need to use the following

    1. Run the registry editor

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa

    1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
    LmCompatibilityLevel

    3. Set the value to 1

    4. Reboot

    Hope this helps

Name of my next thread: Help me find LM Authentication!

Ok I've gotten as the LSA using the regedit... When I go into regedit I get a load of icons... The first one being default. I presume it's this one I change to 1?

Always backup the registy before making any changes

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Lsa

If you right click on the LSA , Click creat DWORD and use LmCompatibilityLevel as the name of the key. you can then set the value.
