is this just a method used by beer companies to allow them produce crap? I like cool beer but beer thats so cold it numbs your taste buds and you cant taste anything??

we all know beer companies do dodgy things, like adding the adhesive substance that makes the beer cling to the side of the glass giving you the rings inside the glass.

but actually marketing ice cold beer as a good thing, its a step to far........

I'd agree with this.I've only seen Budweiser and Coors light do this and imo they're both awful, and I wouldn't drink them in any form.

In Australia if it isn't icecold it's warm. Some people prefer it. I don't drink lager much anyway. Remember ice cold guiness? Or something like that

Im of the mind, "the colder the better". So cold that you cant hold it for too long.
    Stubbie Holers FTW!

Don't really drink lager much (mostly Guinness), but Tennents Ice Cold is a great beer.

I reckon there is such a thing as "too cold" for a beer, if ya cant hold it properly, also you cant taste it either... and its hard to drink.

I do like cold beer as most people do!!

In Aus at the moment try telling them a beer can be too cold !

A few mates of mine drink Harp. Recently Harp ice was introduced in to one of the pubs and they weren't impressed at all. Said it was too cold.

    Guinness ftw!

I would have thought ice-cold Harp would take away from the taste of Harp - a big plus in my book!

I think the temperature influences the CO2 content of beer . Recently enough it has been discovered that we can actually taste CO2. I would say that this has a big part to play in why so beers taste better cold while others do not. I am not a big guinness drinker but guinness uice cold was quite palatable I thought.

This isn't the forum for a lengthy post on this so I will simply state my opinion.

Beer served "Ice-cold" Below 10 degrees celcius or so, is just not right. In fact, I would say the same for almost any alcoholic beverage.

Being so cold hides the flavours of the drinks.

Ice cold beer is the same as 'light' beer - it's a marketing concept designed to give that beer an edge in an extremely competitive market. Generally, the beers produced under these labels are utter crap.

You should avoid like the plague all beers sold with the descriptor 'ice cold' or 'light', or those whose name ends in 'weiser'.

I think the normal pints are a bit warm myself, altho the ice cold ones are too cold as well.

    Guess im just awkward!!

i like all drinks to be very cold -beer, wine, coca cola, water.

besides, with a regular pint by the time you get to the bottom it's lukewarm. eurghh,. so with a super cold one, it maintains its chill all the way through.

and i definitely think the lower the quality of beverage [i'm looking at you, coors], the lower the temperature oughtta be.

I like my beers pretty cold, especially on a hot day / in a stuffy club etc.

Had Extra Cold Guinness in a bar in Heathrow one time, was coming out of the tap at 1.4 degrees C apparently  Nicest Guinness I've ever had, was almost like drinking Guinness flavoured ice cream. :p
