How do you know that you'll be starting science in TCD in September when you haven't even began your Leaving Cert exams yet?

    Most likely an international student...

Don't really have much info on Foundation Physics but you should be aware that you will NOT be able to continue with Physics after the JF year having only done Foundation Physics.

At the end of second year myself so can't really remember back that far.:D

Chemistry started off slowly enough anyway and Foundation Physics was difficult for me because I'd never done it before but was fine for people who had any sort of background in it.

I'm not completely sure what you mean by "contents of", but this is the intro to physical chemistry page: http://www.tcd.ie/Chemistry/teaching/chemistry/jf/introphys1/introphys1.php
    and Foundation physics page: http://www.tcd.ie/Physics/undergraduate/foundation_physics/foundation_physics_syllabus.php

The Geology page is here, you can even download the course booklet if you have a TCD password seemingly (which I don't anymore, so I can't check)

    Thanks but no password,
Could someone take a peek at the topics of the module in it please?

It has the module topics, even without the password.
This module sets out to investigate: The origin and development of our planet, the principles that govern it, the processes that act in, on and around it, the life that has evolved with it. There are three main themes: (1) Earth in Space: We live on a dynamic and ever-changing planet. The surface is constantly being destroyed and renewed. This theme concentrates on the basic concepts behind how our planet functions, such as the origin of the Earth, what it is made of, the processes at work inside and out and how these drive changes in the planet. (2) The Living Planet: Earth is about 4.5 billion years old. Life has existed for at least 3.8 billion years. We shall investigate how the planet and life have evolved together through time. We will look at examples where the planet has changed the course of evolution, and conversely, events where life has altered the planet's physical state. (3) A Delicate Balance: This theme centres around humans and the planet. We will look at the destructive nature of geological hazards such as volcanoes, earthquakes and meteorite impacts. What causes them and how do they affect our lives? The other side of the coin is what useful geological resources the planet can yield to us such as coal, oil, gas and metalliferous minerals.
Why are you looking for such detail at this stage anyway, you seem to have already chosen your subjects?

    I'm a first year student this year. They restructured the geology course this year into two halves each 6 weeks long;
The first half covers the development of the earth and it's internal processes.
The second half covers the evolution of animals and the role played by geology in their development (mass extinction periods etc etc)
The course is supplemented by a weekly tutorial which is worth 30% continuous assessment as well as two MCQ's that run at the end of each half of the course worth 5% each.

They're continually revising the course based on feedback so except some small changes come next year.
Also are you comparing foundation physics and geology?
Most students do one or the other as doing both cuts down your options a bit. It's not unheard of mind you but it's very uncommon.

    Damn macbook keyboards..... sorry.

before I do that, why don't YOU do something to help ANYONE on this forum? 7 posts, all in this thread, wow your really being helpful aren't you. you still didn't say why you don't have a password?

    Groinshot, ignore the OP.

    This thread is extremely suspicious.
    • Firstly, the OP claims he is entering JF science in September even though the LC exams haven't even began yet, never mind CAO offers.
    • If he is a Trinity student like he claims he should have a password.
    • Also he hasn't offered any info about himself at all, such as his name.
    • He is coming across as very rude and brash "gimme info on this, this, and this. MOAR"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 98 ✭✭Gladiator.

I'm not being rude at all
The reason I know I will be in TCD in Sep ,is I have been offered a place as a mature student
When I say I'm in TCD, I mean I'm in it this year
Or it could be a case of back to the future
Last of all I look forward to you logging in and filling the thread with geological info

Oi, just what the fack do you think you're playing at, mate?
JammyC is a well-respected, level-headed contributor to this forum. You just can't sign up and immediately start attacking the veterans like that, even if it is in (poorly scripted) verse. You've made yourself an enemy today, mate. Best not reveal your identity in case I'm tempted to dance on your face in real life.
