The sound of your own voice - does anyone like it?

Other night while having a few with a mate i accidentally left the phone camera on. An hour later i realised this - only today i played it to recall some of the beer-fuelled conversation

Firstly, i was like "Ah this is boring, i already agree with everything the guy says". But also, there is something disturbing about hearing your own voice back.

So im wondering; as humans, are we all like that (not wanting to hear ourselves). Must be hell for any DJ methinks

My voice sounds completely different in my head.
Sometimes when it is played back, I really cringe.
    Other times, not so much.
My voice seems to change from day to day,
so hopefully, if I am being recorded...it will be on a good voice day.

It's crazy how different you actually do sound when you hear your voice being played back.
I pity those who have to hear me yap all the time.

I don't mind my own voice... It's ok, not great, but I don't mind it. Hate hearing it over a microphone or played back to me.

that's cos when you hear your voice in your head, it's the sound from your vocal cords vibrating up to you ear via the jaw, but when you hear it played back, it's from the speaker vibrating the air to your eardrum, which vibrates the bones of the inner ear a bit differently.
some phone companies are trying to make a device that will attach to your jaw and pick up these vibrations which will make phone calls completely different.

I think I sound awesome and clear when I'm speaking.
When I listen back to it I sound like my dad.

Not liking your own voice is better than ending like Joe Duffy and loving the sound of your own voice.

Nope, hate it... No idea why.

Don't really like it. I done a favour for a few communication students recently and took part in some interviews. I didn't like when they played it back, too much like Padraig Harrington (eh, eh, eh, eh) :)

I always think I sound very English, even though I don't really.

    So, no!

You really get used to it.

When I heard recordings or tapes of me back in the early days, I cringed at the sound, but now as I'm older, I'm familiar with it.

Women like the sound of their voice, more so than blokes, I imagine.

Can't stand when I hear my own voice. Sounds really weird.

Though when you hear other people talking it sounds like them, so maybe its just in our heads.

When I hear my mates being played back in videos they sound like they always do.

But when I hear myself being played back I sound like a complete stranger, to me anyway. Hate the sound of my voice in recordings.

Is it all in our heads? O.o

I would say so, I would never be able to recognise my own voice being played back if I didn't know it was me already.

    Nice.

In my head my voice sounds fine; when I hear it played back though, I almost die of embarrassment. I have the geekiest voice I have ever heard.

    In a nut shell no.
Some of my workmates have said i have a tone like Roger Moore when I'm speaking on the phone. In real life its more like Frank Spencer. mmm! Ha ha.

The voice that I hear when I'm speaking sounds ok to me, but a recording of it and how it sounds to everyone else? Monstrous. And way more Cark...

    Hate mine with a passion.
It sounds okay in my head, but when I hear my natural speaking voice played back I start to wonder how I have friends who willingly hang out with somebody who sounds like that.
I even judge them a little bit for it. :pac:
Tis not so bad when I'm doing accents and the like.
Probably cos I don't sound like me.

Edit: Pretty much what ToniTuddle said. Yay, I'm not alone in my self hatred :pac:

Hate the sound of my own voice but love the sound of my own arse.

    Odd.

I detest it, I sound like I'm speaking through my nose a lot. :o

I only like my voice being played back when it sounds really deep in the recording. That happened one time, nothing in life has ever been good since that day.
