Graduates - Gardai?

Just wondering if many struggling graduates are considering applying to join the Gardai?

The minister for justice announced a recruitment drive sometime this year and I believe having a third level education stands well to you in terms of career prospects and starting salary.

Its a career I never thought of before but a relative suggested reading into it this week after the ministers announcement. It looks interesting if not tough.

The defence forces were inundated with applications for their cadetships this year by graduates who hadn't secured other employment so just wondering will the same effect be seen with the recruitment drive for Gardai?

I believe it takes a long time between applying, going through the various stages of tests, waiting, etc. and all that before you actually ever see a Garda uniform.

I'd say a lot of people will stick their names into the hat, but when all is said and done, a lot of people won't bother actually going through with it.
