Drives going too high

    Hi all,

My driving recently has been very solid. I've starting playing with a stronger grip (see about four knuckles of left hand) and my distance has been better than ever.

Yesterday for some reason a lot of my drives were going way too high. Took all the distance off of them and some even plugged with the heavy showers.
The tee height is the same as before (use constant height tees) and I made sure to check the ball position which seems to be the same.
Anyone got any idea what could be going wrong as this came out of nowhere and its wrecking my head ??

    thanks

Are you getting your hands too far ahead of the ball at impact, hitting it on the downswing and creating a lot of back spin causing it to balloon. Only one of a possible myriad of causes, I'm sure you'll get some advice from others as there's a lot of sensible advice here at times :D

thanks for the reply....well I have been focusing on breaking the wrists at the top of the backswing to create some lag so there may be something to what you say.

I'm fairly new to this lark so if what you say is true then how do I marry the two i.e. how do I create lag while still making sure my hands are not ahead of the ball at impact ?

Maybe if you are doing something new in your swing (change of grip) then perhaps something else needs adjusting. Try your ball placement, push it up slightly and see if it helps.

There is a thread here on people gripping down on the driver and swearing that it has helped a lot so maybe a bit of tinkering at the range could get to the bottom of it.
