    Hi,

I have a Trek 1.2 with an 8 speed shimano gear set, and a SRAM 850 8 speed cassette at the back.

Will this be compatible with a set of Mavic Aksium shimano M10?

Is M10 indicating the type of the rear hub or will the wheels actually come with a 10speed cassette pre-installed? Will I be able to run a 10 speed cassette on my 8 speed gear set? or otherwise will I be able to install an 8 speed cassette on this type of hub?

Thanks, good news! I have been told that these are really good wheels!

If I decide to get a 10 speed cassette (which would be a nice change) will this work with my 8 speed shifter?

    Cheers:)

nope unfortunately not. youll need new shifter and rear derailleur and chain. the aksiums are 125 in cycle superstore if you didnt know which is a phenominal price. im getting these wheels soon for my new bike :)

...I thought so....well, still happy I can get the wheels for my 8 speed.....will place my order today!

....last question (how little I know about bikes:o).....my cassette is a 12-26T, what would be the benefits of changing for a 11-30? (assuming this would be compatible with my shifter).......thanks again!

you would have an easier gear, meaning you could climb really easy with that compared to you old ratio, but it would be really gappy especially with an eight speed. it will be compatible with everything but im not sure you can get such a high ratio with a road groupset apart from sram apex. this is the case with 105 tiagra ultegra and dura ace but the sram apex cassete should be compatible with shimano. but it is 10 speed so its not for you. un less a mtb cassete

you need something like that there th cheapest options. if you have a triple crankset this wouldnt be necessary as it would defeat the purpose of it

ChainReactionCycles.com, they seem to have the best price on the 2010 model.....got myself a PG850 8 speeds cassette and a lockring....hopefully I shouldn't need anything else...a part from tires and a bit of decent weather.....got myself a turbo trainer too - sick of missing my sunday training because of the rain as this morning....now looking at 2 boring hrs in the gym spin room looking at a wall

How much mileage is on your current chain? If it's much, you'd be better off replacing the chain at the same time as the cassette. Otherwise the old, worn chain will wear the new cassette very quickly.

Not at all. You just need a showerproof cycling jacket and off you go. Keeps you cool as you work...
