Commission Based Work

    Hi Guys,

I recently got a job selling door to door for Vodafone broadband. I don't start for a few weeks. The company running the sales for vodafone seem like a reputable company and are very helpful. My only issue is that it is commission based and I don't know a lot about this.

Does this mean I am self employed? And if so, if it all falls through will I be entitled to the dole afterwards?

See it as a chance to get sales experience on your CV. And door to door sales is by far the hardest type of "cold calling" sales, so it is proper, valuable experience.

I doubt it means you are self-employed (ask the employer), and I doubt it woud affect your dole, but ring revenue to be sure.

You have to weigh up the options too. If you are useless at sales, like many others, then you run the risk of not making money and not providing for yourself.

It's quite possible that it would effect your dole. Definately double check with social welfare and the tax office.

It's good for experience, but if you are confident in sales or this kind of role, then go for it. Do what you can and all the best with the role.

Thanks for the replies people!! I am fairly confident about it myself because I can always just give it a week and feck it I can stop if I don't like it!! The way I look at it is, its better than being on the dole with a chance to earn a fair few quid if you put in the work!

The product is good as it is much cheaper than eircom and is a better product so I won't be selling something that nobody would want!! Lets hope it works out!!

Yea, you are in a much better position since you are selling a good you know about and will be trained on. These other rogue companies give you whatever it is to sell for the day, tomorrow it could be something else. Leaving you at a disadvantage.
