    Seriously?

I just clicked on a link to one and it is *gone* Something that I find happens a lot. Three times tonight!

    www.fecklesswaster.com

Why do people devote time to them and then just stop and delete them

Why bother in the first place?

    Why do they bother?
    To feel important.

    Why do they delete them?
Because the lack of visitors to their blog makes them feel less important than they did before.

Why would you expect a feckless waster to update a blog regularly?

Maybe they weren't the ones who deleted them? Maybe there was a complaint about the blog, and their host yanked it?

People think something is a good idea at the time, but then get bored. Happens all the time. No biggie.

If it's a free hosted one, alot of people use it pretty much as a diary.. One of the lads has it travellin just to keep track.
Other than that, I really don't see the point.

They're pretty helpful career-wise if you're a writer or work in the media.

Or as independent sources of information that don't need to conform to mainstream ethics regarding the release of information.

Or as an outlet for your company to appear more 'human' and friendly.

Or as an easy to use CMS for your website.

Yeah there's a huge amount of useless ones out there, but they're hard to find by their very nature (being useless, bad SEO, no Google ranking).

The only blog I read is a fellow Boardsies' blog as I find what they say interesting and very honest.

I always hated Twitter, but since Trent hacked the place I find my self on there from time to time reading some people's tweets, which essentially is a blog.

I really like YouTube blogs from people I'd admire who have something to say worth hearing.

    I don't understand mindless blogs / vlogs / tweets.

They annoy the fcuk out of me.

The worst cnuts are the ones that will deliberately a YouTube video to fool you into thinking it's a popular subject and even have a thumbnail in the video to appear it is also.

Then when you click it, some twat says: "Hi, this isn't (the video you thought you were clicking on) but here's my opinions on it.."

They need to die, I despise those assholes with a couple of million views that they are sooooo proud of and yet every single one is from people looking for a video that they didn't show ... tossers

People see only their own intellect from a first person perspective. This means that they often have an inflated opinion of its merit, and accordingly, a lesser opinion of other people's intellects. As a result they feel that they have a level of insight which others lack, and believe that they can provide a new and interesting perspective, and that people will care about what the blog says. They are usually wrong on all counts.

So true but this is also the reason for most of the posts on boards.

Times have changed. Ten years ago it was a novelty, and we did it because we could. It wasn't as easy as setting up a WordPress account, and the effort was appreciated. We actually had readers, and comments.

These days, it doesn't help to generalise about bloggers, since it's gone "vertical"; people have specialist topics, and blogs are a means to an end, not an end in itself. You'd better have a good reason to do it. I didn't, so I stopped, nearly three years ago.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
