    Hi

New build extension. Would like an open fire but concerned about heat loss through the chimney. Is it really that bad? If so will go for a sealed wood stove or sealed gas. Would love to hear your views and experience.

    PS from happyo

The house will be really well insulated. I would like an open fire for feature/occasional use. If a house is well insulated and don't expect draughts will there be much heat loss through the chimney when the fire isn't lit. Can most of the loss be prevented by damper etc??
