    What's a reasonable amount to live on for a student?

    I have applied to go back to college this year and unfortunately i don't think i will be entitled to the grant (been to college already). So i have been saving hard. I applied to a plc college and have the college fee saved and a bit saved for the books already. So after that, its only living expenses, which i hope to have about 8k for the year. It works out to be about €200 a week. Is it possible to live on this? If people on the dole can, im sure i could too. But then they also get rent allowance.

    rent... €50 - €80 per week. (depending on where your living. etc. just find somewhere comfortable, and includes bills in the weekly amount.

    bills... usually for a student its just phone credit, and electricity etc.

    food... depends on how you eat. i spend almost €100 a week on food, but i know a lot of people who spend €40 max and do fine.

    after that, i guess social expenses. i usually budget 50 per week.

    were are you going to college? if its outside dublin 200 a week including rent is doable

    if its in dublin after rent you might only be left with 80 or 90

    200 a week should be fine as long as you shop smart and dont spend 50quid on bucky a week ;)

    I would say (per week - on average):

    Rent: 80-85eu
    Food: 25eu
    Phone: 10eu
    Utility Bills: 10eu
    Social: 30eu
    Misc: 20eu

    And don't forget about once-off payments at the start of October:

    House Deposit: 320-360eu
    Educational Materials: 200eu
    Registration Fee: 1500eu (not if you're in receipt of full maintenance grant)
    Capitation Fee: 165eu

    And of course variable expenditure, that may or may not be applicable:

    Clothing
    Society/Club trips away
    Presents
    Loan repayments
