my mate was telling me today that he knows someone who has a receiver that you plug your broadband into and then from the box to your tv and you can pick up sky sports/movies/music and all the other channels and still use your broadband. these wre his words not mine. never heard of it. he said he'd find out more about it for me. he doesnt know what this receiver is called or how itexactly works.

sounds to good to be true......if it does then it usually is.

anyone know of these or anything like it?

Read the rules buddy, any such device is clearly going to be illegal so why are you asking about it?

    IBTL

are we not alowed to talk about it even? no one has to say where you can get them just if these things exist is all. surely you can talk about illegal stuff. not asking for somene to sell me one or anything

The moderation has slipped significantly lately, i take the point that Mod's have lives outside of Boards, but if they cant put in the time then why bother.
There's plenty of people on here on a daily basis that would be capable and knowledgeable enough to perform the task.
Also, people posting advise that is wrong or plain stupid is another thing that is dragging this forum down.

I am torn on this one. I agree the Mods aren't as regular on the forums these days but I have always wondered why some things can't be discussed on Boards when they clearly aren't against the law and there would be no foundation for a legal case. I know they got burnt a while back with a well known media promoter but there are plenty of very respectable British boards discussing a lot of issues that are banned here.

I really like the technical stuff and picking up the knowledge of how things work and are accomplished. I would like an Irish slant on some of these things, not just C/S BTW.

    Just me 2c.

These sort of topics are all or nothing really and a blanket ban is far easier to moderate.

Let's be honest, all the information is out there and only needs Mr. Google to show you the way.

Do said sites only cater for that sort of thing, or do they also cater for everything else?

Good point. They wouldn't be as broad as Boards is with their topics but they certainly do discuss other topics.

Thanks but I prefer plain English or even OMG without the sarcasm. Its a sad state of affairs when you have to google a post just to figure out what it means.

Because they looked after your best interests?

hardly grounds for an open forum

Yes you can get them. And google is your best way to find them. Or get your mate to ask the person he knows.

He didn't question their integrity, he just pointed out that Boards policy just happens to coincide with what benefits your business interest.

    No need to get tetchy:)

let them say what they like, it was actually your integrity i was calling into question - using boards for your own benefit and demeaning anyone elses beliefs is hardly the purpose of an open public forum

And here i was, hoping that SKY was offering broadband in Ireland.. :(

    no need to call Colombo

you are here as the representative of a company with an interest in the topic of how quickly an opinion should be muffled, where that topic is of financial interest to your company

this seems demeaning to me, yet understandable given your position

Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning? Your arguments are ridiculous and questioning Tony's integrity is just not on. He has contributed more to this forum than you ever will.

I recommend you go have a nice little nap as you may wake up in a better mood.

Thead closed. DON'T discuss hacking systems.

And guys, if you have problems with the moderation on this forum, take it to the Admins. Don't discuss it on a thread on the board and if I see it again bans are getting handed out. Clear?
