    Hi there,
We are thinking of doing a job on our front lawn and I think it may need to be cultivated or tilled.

There are some weeds in it and alot of moss. We are going to put down moss killer when we get the next dry spell.

We want to move some earth from one area of the lawn to another and have a nice clean flat lawn.

How would I go about removing the weeds first so that they are not cut at the roots and once that's done how to you level out the lawn and then lay down new seed? Would walking on the soil to lay down new seed not damage the levelling and put holes in it from your feet?

Also we are looking for a balance of low maintenance and nice looks - what kind of grass should be plant and what other things would we need to do.

Once the lawn is tilled would we need we need to destone it and everything?

    Thanks.

Roundup......14 days later dig it up.......add loads of lime.......rake it......pick stones.....roll it and level it......seed it......keep fingers crossed:)

No real need for moss killer as adding lime and digging it will get rid.

Soil could be in bad nick so add some drainage while you are at this job and also adding lots of sand and grit may help your soil aswell.

Get one of these for the digging be a lot faster www.chillingtonhoes.com

Walking on the lawn before sowing seed is actually recommended, you do the 'lawn shuffle' which involves moving sideways and putting your foot on every bit of soil. Alternatively you could roll it!
