Hey guys, myself and the boyf are planning to head to India this summer, around late June to early/middle August (depending on exams :p). We don't have an official plan yet, so I was wondering has anyone ever been and have some tips or more importantly, places to include in our travels? We'd like to see a bit of the north and the south! Also we have to book flights v. soon so does anyone know a cheap airline that gets us there- stopovers, transfers etc are not an issue!
    Thanks a mill!

I would recommend that you stay up in the northern part of India as it will be monsoon season and will be better in the north of the country. There is a "classic triangle"that is Dehi- Agra - Jaipur. Its a nice route. there are many other places in Rajastan that are worth visiting. If you are into hiking you could fly to Nepal(about 90E return). Its about a 1-1.30hr flight.

Flights within India are very cheap, they average about 25E and take between 1hour and 2hours.

    A great website is www.makemytrip.com

www.seat61.com is good for info and trains etc

There are a number of sites out there that are soley dedicated to travel in India and the culture there; google is your friend:)

i am also going to india soon - early june to mid july. i've never been and like the other poster said its a massive country. its hard to know where to get started. i dont think i'll be scared off by the monsoon though. i believe it'll pour down for half an hour maybe twice a day and then be fine for the rest of it. average rainfall for goa in june is 900mm!

cheapest flight i've seen so far is 550 dublin to delhi return with klm. 600 if returning from mumbai.

i have yet to organise the visa + shots which i'd make an uneducated guess to cost about 50 + 100.

Don't underestimate the heat plus monsoon plus mosquitoes. The period you are talking about is really the least ideal time to travel to India. Can get very uncomfortable.

    Are you speaking from experience?
