Just wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be wrong with the network interface on my Dreambox. I'm no longer getting an IP address from a router after rebooting Nabilosat. It was working fine for weeks. I verified the network connection with a laptop. I also tried switching to the built in Wifi interface.
I'm lost without being able to telnet into the box.
How can I look at the syslog from the menus?

    Thanks,

You should give the DM a static IP address like 192.168.1.XXX some whare around 50 for the XXX should do. As long as the green and orange lights come on at the ethernet port you should be ok. You should be able to give the IP via menus with remote.

It sounds as if your router hasn't given your DM an IP.

Thanks for the reply. I did try using a static IP but no joy there either.
I have had it pick up the network after a reboot occasionally but it is very temperamental. The same is true if I boot to the firmware loading page with the right button held. DHCP will sometimes give me 192.168.1.70 but normally it will just show "dhcp" on the panel.
I am suspecting a hardware problem because all my other devices have no trouble with the network (even the same cable).

    Thats a strange one.

It does sound like some type of box malfunction.

Try re-patching the box maybe as a last resort.

Is the dreambox genuine or a clone? you can enter the serial number on the dream-multimedia website to find out,the clones do give trouble.I had trouble with mine (genuine 8000)two weeks ago,but it was my ignorance for paying no attention to line providers email, and I only found this out after i brought it back to the shop and they rebooted everything. The 8000s were only launched one year ago so it must be still under warranty, bring it back and let them worry about it.

See if you can connect a laptop/computer etc to the same ethernet cable and get an IP address.. I'd try this just to verify that the router is really responding to DHCP requests.

If that works, then completely power off the receiver, power-up, holding down the channel down button to get into flash mode.. that uses the front-loader to obtain a DHCP address (not the installed image) and displays this on the OLED display with the "STOP ***" message.. so its a good way of 2nd guessing the connection.

If that works, then the hardware is fine... its got to be software/settings. So reboot it and do a settings backup from the software menu and reflash again. When prompted, try a settings restore.. hopefully all will be OK, but if the network is still botched, then try a factory reset in the menus or just reflash again, this time bypassing the restore option.

If the flash mode does NOT get an IP address and the laptop/PC does.. then its starting to suggest that the ethernet NIC itself is damaged. However I would have assumed that even if it was, that the wifi would have worked as its a separate mini-PCI card and not an integrated LAN/wifi interface.
