    Hi guys,

I've got a wifi connection in my house and a computer which can't pick up this signal, can I use my iPhone to connect the computer to the wifi connection? If so how do I do it?

Does your computer have a wifi device in it to enable to to connect to wifi?
If not then you have two options
1: Purchase a wifi dongle that plugs into your computer in a usb slot and this will allow the computer to see and connect to the wifi
    2) I assume your computer has a network card? - If so you can put a cable from this into your wifi router and this will give you broadband.

Wifi dongles are cheap and can be got on ebay.

Is it not possible to use my iPhone as a modem to connect to the Internet but instaed of using my credit, I'll have it running off my wifi connection?

I don't think so. What you are proposing is not using the iPhone as a modem (that would use the 3G network) you are proposing using it as a WiFi dongle.

To the best of my knowledge, that is not possible.

Your iPhone would need to appear as a network card to the computer which would need drivers and so on.

This is possible I have used it to connect a laptop to a bitbuzz wifi hotspot via my iPhone (because I can connect for free on my phone). Just enable tethering in settings and then use the USB cable to connect your iPhone to the computer. Just be sure that your iPhone is connected to wifi otherwise you might be charged by o2 for tethering over 3g depending on you iPhone plan.

All data is routed via the tethering APN over the 3G/EDGE/GPRS connection regardless of whether the wifi is connected or not. You must be lucky enough to be on the old o2 priceplans which include tethering usage.

no, you cant set you the iphone up as a bridge because it only has one wifi antenna.

I stand to be corrected the only reason I thought this was the first time I tried tethering I was getting impressive speeds then realised my phone was connected to wifi (10mbs) I just assumed I was then connecting via wifi and not 3g. I better check my bill!!

so vodafone/o2 know when your tethering to your iPad/laptop etc and when your using your data allowance on the phone for browsing, as intended?

i had ideas of getting the wifi only iPad and tethering, but if theyre gonna know, and charge me, then i might have to rethink that lol

hi guys, im with vodafone, i would like to be able to tether my phone to use my 2g allowance without paying the extra money for tethering ? if i jailbreaked it would that be an option ?
or has anyone tried to put the phone sim into a mobile broadband stick and use it that way ??

The reason im asking is I dont use 2gb between my phone and mobile broadband every month and would like to get rid of the extra €20/month if possible.

If you're with a certain Eircom package you get free access to.

nope, O2 give you free bitbuzz access, just go to bitbuzz location, open up safari and you'll be asked for your phone number, enter it and you're away in a hack to use wi-fi on all your iPhone apps

My mistake, sorry. You get fee access to Eircom's wifi hotspots around the country.

My understanding is that you can do this if you jailbreak and then use the mywifi (or miwifi?) application. I haven't tried it yet.

    Can anybody confirm this?

Yeah, works a treat too. You can get a 10 day free trial from Cydia or Rock then 19.99 for the iPhone 4 version or 9.99 for 3GS or upgrades to the 4's version.
