For the last few weeks, there's been an unusual boat operating off Malahide and around Lambay Island. Could be a dredger (but unlikely off Lambay) or some type of exploration vessel.

Does anybody happen to know what it is and what it's doing?

Thanks. Great link. (The kids will be interested in that.)

It's seems to have been poking around Malahide/Lambay for some time now.

Does anybody know what it's doing?

Bang on. It is doing a lot of work along the coast. It was there last Sept around the time the boats were mussle fishing. seems to operate quite a bit between Balbriggan and Lambay

She will most likely be servicing the navigation buoys in the area and then sheltering at anchor for the night in the vicinity.

The buoys, the very long anchor chain and sinker are all taken on deck by crane and winch, they are cleaned, inspected and serviced before going back in the water. (I worked for their sister company in Scotland a few years ago).
