Herself phoned to say she's stuck on the M50 in the slip for the N4 for the last hour.

She's home - people jumping the queue in order to get into the top of it on the slip to leave the M50 was the problem.

thats always a problem on that slip any time I've used it. They need to figure some way of dealing with it before there's a major accident cos someone is stopped in lane 1 of the M50 trying to force their way in

A half mile or a mile of those thin orange plastic bollards separating the slip from M50 would do the trick.

true, but they'd probably only last a month or so before they were all flattened. They may also cause more accidents.

It was the worst this evening, than it has been in a long long time. It was so bad that coming from the n7 redcow on to m50 northbound, you couldn't get on because the n4 off ramp queue was back that far! No idea what the reason was really. There was a recovery truck with a car in the hard shoulder on the m50 mainline but the traffic didnt seem to be effected by it whatsoever

Herself said that there were so many people shoving in at the top of the queue that further back was at a standstill. And then those that shoved in were letting other queue jumpers in ahead of them.

clearly it was going on for some time, I'm surprised (not really) that the gardai didn't show up and do something about traffic mgt.

I came that way @19:30 and there was a car stopped in the middle lane just after the Liffey vally exit, all the traffic was just trying to get past it.

Just one car.... A quick push and it would have been on the hard shoulder.
