    hi all,

    looking for holiday ideas..

there's two of us (males aged 25) and the plan was to go to thailand for 2 weeks. last week of may and first week of june. with the trouble in thailand at the mo we now have to decide on somewhere else. due to work commitments the dates have to remain the same. we are on a budget (less than 1600 including flights and everything). we want somewhere lively with good things to do during the day and decent nightlife aswell. not too fussy!

    any ideas would be great..

Check Egypt holidays on tropicalsky.ie, I enquired a few weeks ago and some of their prices are lower than advertised. Certainly within your budget anyway.

If you don't mind going long haul then Mexico is a great spot. Was there for 4 weeks a year ago and loved it. I spent a week in a place on the south coast called Puerto Escondido. Great beach including one of the world's top surf beaches, very cheap beer and food, and great climate. I traveled around after that then spent the final week on an island called Isla Mujeres off the coast of Cancun. Another gorgeous spot with a great beach and cheap bars and restaurants. Very chilled and not a whole lot to do except kick back and savour the 1 euro Coronas. If you like fish then you'll love it even more..I ate fish there that I had never even heard of before.

I've also been to Thailand and I would rate Mexico above it...a lot less hassle and not much people trying to sell you stuff or rip you off. It may seem a bit far but it's very do-able in 2 weeks...I met a girl in Puerto that flew in on a Saturday and flew out the next Saturday, so even a week is possible.

I think I flew with Delta airlines from Dublin to Mexico city...there was a 4 hour changeover in Atlanta then a few hours to Mexico city from what I remember. I stayed a couple of nights in Mexico city then got an internal flight to Puerto Escondido. That was pretty cheap and took less than an hour. Stayed there a week and then spent the next 2 weeks busing it towards Cancun where I was flying back from. I stopped in different places on the way like San Cristobal and Palenque which has some Mayan ruins. Then I stayed in Playa del Carmen for a weekend which is an hour south of Cancun. After that I went straight to Isla Mujeres...go a ferry from the harbour in Cancun so didn't stay in Cancun at all.

I was hostelling it all the way. The main hostel in Puerto is the Mayflower which is good fun. There's a hostel in Isla which I think is called Poc Na so I stayed there for the final week. If you look up hostelworld you'll see different options if you want a hostel, otherwise look up trip advisor or others for hotels.

    Hope that helps...... :)
