Exchanging A PS3 Game In Gamestop

    Hi all,

I've posted this Thread on Consumer Issues, but thought I would also post it in here, as alot of you will hopefully have experience or knowledge to answer my question:

I was given a game by my Aunt for my birthday a couple of days ago.

She purchased the game a few weeks back and as she didn't know what games I had, included the receipt with the game, incase I already had it.

It turns out I did already have the game, and now I want to know if I'm going to be able to exchange it for something else.

The game was never used, but as is usually the case with Gamestop, didn't come in a sealed box or a box covered in plastic.

The receipt was issued on 6th of April 2010.

    Thanks.

They consider it a used game in this case. As there is nothing wrong with the game they don't have to take it back. They will give you the trade in value for it.

They have an offer on if your game is worth 15 euro to them they will give you a newish game for 5 euro (check for stickers) might be the best bet. Or take it to HMV as they give the best trade in prices.

    Thanks for the information mate.

Any idea what sort of trade in value the game has? It's Battlefield Bad Company 2.

If you have the receipt then they should take it back under the 28 day return policy no ?

Do they not seal the games up? In Game they put a seal across the box - if the seal isn't broken the game hasn't been opened. If not, go in and tell them there was no seal and that it was a present. They should exchange it for you - in all fairness it's no skin off their back. Make sure to stress that you don't want your money back, that you want an exchange.

BTW, Game actually offer the best trade-in price. They will beat any other store by €1.

If you cant get a full refund, probably one of the better things to do is keep it until someone runs a "Get this new game for 2 other trade ins" type deal. You'll probably get more value from that than just straight trading it.

If you ask them for a credit note they should give you one, I always find the staff at Gamestop (and most shops for that matter) very understanding in situations like unwanted gifts or change-of-mind.

If a young lad goes in it might appear more like they have played it and are returning it. If possible I would get your aunt or mother to try, act all ignorant -"oh whatever will I do my poor 5 year old is heartbroken, he got the same present from another person", most people in shop find it harder to refuse middle aged people who appear to have made a genuine mistake, and many will have the power to refuse or allow.

If bringing it in yourself it might be an idea to bring in your own copy to show you really do own it -can do no harm.

If it is a new game then you only have 7 days to do anything, if it's a used game 30 days. Anything else outside of that is out of the goodwill of the shop. Hope this helps

Try bringing it back and take your other copy with you. If its a straight swap you might just catch someone on a good day. It will defo work for their 5 euro deal so its not too much to spend. Youcould get bioshock 2 for example something like that.

HMV gave me 31 for BFBC2 as trade in 2 weeks ago.

The Mother just laughed when I asked her and said she wouldn't be able to go in and ask them for fear of breaking down with laughter at the counter :pac:

I'll give it a go, worst they can say is no.

    Not bad that.

I'm only wanting to get NBA 10 anyway, so even if they won't let me do a straight exchange for something else, I'll just trade it for a pre-owned copy of NBA 10.

Right, I went in today, explained my situation, lad behind the counter said 'No problem, go ahead and pick out another game'. Picked up the new World Cup game as they didn't have NBA 10 in stock.

Cracking service, I was in and out of the shop in 5 minutes.

    Credit to Gamestop
