The next "Mick Foley"

Im only really highlighting one of the things that made Mick Foley and that is that people connected to him as an ordinary guy atleast Physically. I mean there is a reason so many movie scripts are based around the "John Everyman" character i.e someone filling a role you could legitably imagine someone like you filling.

Do you think there will be another "John Everyman" that will truely make it big in Professional wrestling or is the industry 100% about the look now? and if you do think there will be, is there anyone you see potential in atm?

You can see Dusty Rhodes like qualities in Pope (though the character is far from the common man) but besides that I can't think of anybody off the top of my head. It'll definitely come along again it's just a case of the the right person with the right character coming along.

I suppose some might say Abyss but personally I've never been as high on that guy as others. Not sure if he has 'it'.

I think nowadays it's very much about looks and gimmicks.

Skip Sheffield if he sticks with the idiotic but good hearted babyface role he sometimes plays has similar qualities I think. Quite an odd choice considering his look and his gimmick but the kid has something I like. They just need to quit alternating him between heel and face every week and let him get his character over.

I cant see anybody presently that has the everyman quality, less likely to see one in the future then ever before unfortunately, cookie cutter wrestlers and all that.

Bryan Danielson has a sort of normal average guy about him.

I think someone like Mick Foley is desperately needed at this point in time and would improve wrestling no end. I mean they need somebody who is reckless with their body and is willing to go through torture to put another wrestler over.

Lets face it there is not one superstar or wrestler on WWE or TNA that would voulenteer to be thrown off a cage through an announce table. And then continue to be slammed through the cage and then onto thumbtacks. And then be pinned relatively easily.

so in short FOLEY IS GOD

Foley was God,sad thing is that time is now over,I would love to see an I Quit match or a Barbed Wire match but no one will do them as they have seen the damage it can do. Plus with the stupid PG rules now even if anyone like him did come on the scene they would end up jobbing to someone on Superstars,Foley was the very best at putting his own body on the line to get someone else over.

The thing with Foley was that he was fairly over as Mankind before we saw the real Mick Foley. If they had left MVP as a heel last year I could have seen something similar happening with him. He has a great backstory with his jail time which if told right could have really got him over.

I don't know if we'd get another wrestler with the terrific psychology that Foley has. His promos are always insightful, well presented with an element of pity, empathy and psychotic rage. He is/was far too smart for the carny business of wrestling. It's pretty cool that although he is a fantastic speaker/character, he also carved out his niche as king of hardcore wrestling and putting his body through so much.

I don't get how come he's not a painkiller addict and dead before 40....

Theres no comparison between Bryan and Foley in the context of this thread. Bryan looks like a wrestler, wrestles like a wrestler but wouldn't have anything near the charisma of Foley.

Whereas Foley is the last person you'd expect to be a wrestler if you saw him on the street, wrestled an unorthodox style but had highly unique charisma.

Rather odd analogy to make tbh.

How does someone "Look" like a wrestler?
If I saw someone in the street I wouldn't automatically think Wrestler either. But the fact that Bryan doesn't fit the template that most fit into draws a comparison with Foley. Thats the only comparison I made to him :

The point I made is that Danielson has that look about him, like an ordinary individual, not a heavily muscled giant that is the norm in pro wrestling. I thought that was the threads meaning.

But Danielson has a good build and is in fantastic shape? Foley's a fat bastard who dresses like a tramp, wouldn't look out of place down your local boozer skulling pints with all the other bums.:pac:

Mankind was probably the best gimmick of the 90s in WWF. Also did you know that Foley had a proposal to Vince for an "EXploding ring deathmatch" against Terry Funk in Funk's ranch for WMXIV? Vince passed what with the media attention on Tyson.

Foley was a good wrestler technically kinda but like Jake Roberts and some other guys, his best work was his promos and his intensity.
