pgde, mynooth - a few tp position qs

    Hi.

I am in a sticky situation. I got offered NUI Maynooth on 6th april. Unfortunately, I only sent out my CV to about 50 schools about a week ago. I have heard from 3 schools so far. 1 saying they dont take on PGDE students (despite the fact i got their contact details from maynooths list of schools that frequently offer pgde places) and 2 saying the positions for TP have already been filled.

Im starting to think that every TP position is gone.

    Would this be the case?

I only have experience teaching doing grinds for the past 3 years or so, but have no classroom teaching experience. Could this also be a major factor in not getting a pgde tp position?

If i dont secure TP position come august/september, does that mean i cant do the pgde in maynooth? or does maynooth have a few schools available for cases such as mine (assuming that is my case come august/september?

    cheers

    JM

Every year there are a few people who are in this position, but usually it's June or July in which they are freaking out. You're relatively early. Just keep at it. I've never heard of anyone not doing the course because they didn't get a school.

    Hi John.

Now way will Maynooth just sit back while you drop out because you can't find a TP position.

They are very helpful and will do all they can to help you, but they will want to see that you are trying yourself, so hold onto those letters.

They don't keep places back as such, but they have connections, with a lot of the staff being ex-principals or ex-deputys in many schools. So there will be hope for you yet!!

Keep in mind that some schools might not have completed their timetable yet and that may be why they haven't gotten back to you yet.

However, you should really call on the phone or better yet turn up to the school in question. It's far better than just sending out your CV

Don't worry I'm in the exact smae boat as you. I've sent out about 40 CV's and made follow up calls again and again only to be told that the TP places in schools are all taken up at this stage    So I'm panicing about it now!
