I'm looking for an AV Receiver that will handle HD audio over HDMI from my Windows Media Center PC. I have a Yamaha receiver I'll be replacing as it doesn't have HDMI.

I have 5 speakers that I am happy with so don't need to change them and I have an active subwoofer at the moment (think I have the passive sub that came with those speakers in the attic, for some reason my receiver only has an output for an active subwoofer).

Budget is around €350 - what would you recommend?

    Hey Frank.

Have a look over the following amps:

Pioneer VSX819 priced at 269.99 Euro
    https://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=930&Mode=0&productid=966&Results=true&keys=pioneer%20vsx

Onkyo TX-SR308 priced at £294.99 Euro
    https://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=930&Mode=0&productid=1014&Results=true&keys=onkyo

Denon AVR1910 priced at 389.99 Euro (Fantastic Deal - Limited Stock)
    https://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=3&SUB=24&ProductID=923

All the amps that we have for sale are designed to run an active subwoofer. You could connect your passive sub to the Front left and right speaker terminals on the amp and get a bass tone. It would not be a true bass tone but would out put the same as the front two speakers.

While this is not ideal. Something is better than nothing, until you decided to upgrade to an active sub.

Tannoy SFX Subwoofer priced at 164.99 Euro

Thanks Kenny. I do have an active sub today - my memory has jogged and I bought my speakers as part of the LG LH-T 760 IB system but discarded the DVD player and the passive sub. I've been using a Creative Labs active subwoofer that I had lying around and I've no issues with the base it's providing, music sounds great on my current setup.

Does the boards.ie 10% discount apply to these systems?

I think I might go for the Denon 1910. Looking around on the web it seems it has some issues with HD audio on Home Theater PCs and something called an EDID override is required to enable the bitstreaming but it sounds simple enough to setup.

The upscaling features of the 1910 sound good but my graphics card on the HTPC will be capable of upscaling anyway so I just want to ensure that there's no issues with trying to upscale an upscaled signal. Don't think there is.

What way does it work - do you post direct or ship it to the Philips store on Dame St? I'm in D12 so could easily pop in there.

Am also toying with the idea of getting a 37" TV to replace my 32" 720p TV. Don't think my room is big enough for a 40". What deals do you have on 37" TVs?

    HI Frank.

The Boards 10% discount only applies to the Philips Shop and Not RicherSounds (Sorry)!! :(

At the moment there are no boards discounts on the items listed.
The Denon AVR 1910 has been reduced over the last few days to the current price.

We can have products sent the Philips Shop on Dame Street for collection but the standard delivery cost would still apply as we have to ship it to the Philips Shop via DPD or we can ship direct to you.

Again at the moment we have very few 37" screens that we can ship.

    LG 37LH3010 priced at £449.95

    LG 37LH4010 priced at £499.95

If you could make the trip to the Belfast store you could get a better deal on a screen with some of our instore only deals.

LG 37LF7700 priced at £399.95 (In Store Only)

Thanks Kenny, I'll go for the Denon AVR-1910 for now, won't make it up to Belfast for a while so won't rush into the TV purchase.

Do I just order the Denon online or arrange via PM? I'll have it delivered to my sister's house as I'm always at work during the week and can't have it delivered there.
