Which course North Dublin?

All, I have decided that I am going to join a club in North Dublin and would like to ask for feedback on my choices. All are within my catchment area.

I am looking for the opportunity to get my handicap and expand my playing partners. I would also like to play in competitions.
I would like a welcoming place where it is easy to mix.

    These are my perceptions

Donabate-Always on teetimes. 27 hole layout so you can never be sure if you arrive on your '10th' behind a queue. Seems to be an older crowd.
Roganstown- Looks nice, but dont know how I would gel in there as I would not be paying an entrance fee. Would there be resentment to new members

Hollywood lakes- Looks nice on web havent played

Turvey- Could be a runner but unsure of longevity
Balcarrick- havent played but looks somewhat non-descript from photos

    Any advice welcome

Bar Roganstown Forrest Little is a far superior course to the rest.

Roganstown is easily the best on your list.

Corrstown is also another Option. I became a full member there this year and i'm very Happy.

Plus they are currently running a number of different membership options.

Hollywood Lakes appears to be very good value, you can now get a share for €1500. Nice track. http://www.hollywoodlakesgolfclub.com/_news.php

Have friends in Roganstown who did pay an entrance fee and can confirm that there is no resentment towards new members.

Good track if it is close to you and you can also avail of reduced membership of the gym.

I have been a member in Roganstown since it opened and paid €15k to join, most of the original members got to split the share and sell it, it's a nice course and has a good friendly group of members, I doubt you will feel or see any resentment. The membership is capped at 500 so there is never any problem getting a tee time. The only weak point with RT is there is no clubhouse, just a small bar in the hotel, been a while since I stayed after a game but the service and prices were not very good, although I have heard it's improved

I am also a member in Portmarnock Links, you can now get 5 day for €1500 and 7 day for €2500, really good links course and it's in great condition

Assuming that Portmarnock, the Island and Royal Dublin are not options :) the best courses in North Dublin are imo:

    Roganstown
    Portmarnock Links
    Hollywood Lakes
    Balbriggan

Balbriggan is 8k in though, so I'd imagine its no use to the OP.

Why not try Balcarrick? This no nonsense members club has a very friendly atmosphere and no joining fees for either full or 5 day members. I'm a member there and have yet to meet a visitor who didn't sing its praises. They spent €1.5m on re-development in 2007/8 - greens are fantastic and club is not burdened with massive debt or running costs. Moreover, they've brought in over 35 new members this year, despite the recession. Let me know if you want to try it on your own or with a friend and I'll arrange complimentary green fee/s.

Sorry to move off topic. Could you clear something up please David?
I too have been looking for a club in the swords/donabate area, and i saw this on your easy payment plans on the website.

"1. You can pay any amount you like off your sub in the office or at the bar"

Would you mind telling me rexactly how this works?
    Thanks

On completion of interview process for new members and for existing members, subs can be paid in installments by standing order or through office / bar as long as they are paid in full by 31/07/2010.
There is no additional charge for this facility ..... we are a members club .... we keep members fully up to date on what is happening in the club (including finances) and in these difficult ecomomic times try our best to be as flexible as possible to recruit new members and retain existing ones.
You can contact me through the office (01 8436957) or by email to captain@balcarrickgolfclub.com for further details.

    Hi,
A bit up the motorway but bellewstown at 800 a year may be a option it will leave you with a few quid to play opens in all the other clubs they have comps on every sat and sunday not as good as roganstown which is my favourite course in the area.
