Any point in shopping around?

I have my eye on a new road bike (actually, still a few decisions to make, but I've narrowed it down to 3... er 4), and as far as I can see, checking CSS, and both bike shops I've been into, the price is constant. I daresay the other stuff (tubes, pumps, etc) can vary wildly from brand to brand and shop to shop, but for the big purchase, the bike, is there any point in shopping around? I have about 3 more bike shops I can visit, but don't fancy spending my Saturday doing so, if the LBS (Midleton) will sort me out.

I've been raised to always shop around, but is there any point when it comes to buying a new bike, and I'm fairly sure which one I'm going for?

you should ask the shops.. most will knock a bit off, especially if you are buying some acceeories. Also aftersales service is worth shopping about for also.

Yeah, I did think about the post-purchase stuff, mostly in terms of the 2 month service, but all things being equal, I'm not going to know how that is until I actually buy something, and I think it makes sense to buy from somewhere nearby - for ex. I visited VCC during the week and while that's fine, it's not very handy from Midleton.

I'm torn between the Defy 3, the Specialized Allez or the Trek 1.2 I'm leaning torwards the Defy 3 at this point. Or certainly a Defy of some description.

Went ahead and got the Defy 3. Was torn between it and 3.5 but the 100 quid price difference seems to be worth it, and in real terms, it's only 58 quid more :)
Went to the local bike shop, the prices and 'discount' were the same as the other places I'd tried, but I figured I'd show my face, get a name, etc. Nothing wrong with being friendly to the guy who could sever your brake lines...

Should be taking delivery within the next 2 weeks and then I'm on me bike.
