Speed Checking

So, I was out today and there was a Garda out checking the speeds. Luckily I wasn't caught but I was wondering is there certain rules he has to follow when it comes to checking them. He was hiding behind a bus stop jus after a bend which I thought was a bit unfair on other drivers and his motorbike was ~50 metres up the road. Was he breaking rules here? Or can they more or less hide when checking them?

Why is that unfair?? I would have thought a bus stop just after a bend is exactly where you would want to catch people speeding?

Detecting motorists' speed is not "unfair", it's his job.

The other moderators may add to this thread if they so wish, but I do not believe they will disclose or discuss operational procedures which seems to be what you're looking for.

I'll throw in a quick two cents but PSNI has covered it.

We dont have procedures as such for speed detection and the ones we have will not be discussed as per the forum charter. However remember.....we are there to DETECT speeders.....not have a sign a mile up the road saying "Gardaí hiding behind the next Bus stop". A Garda's job, and using a motorbike I would hazard a guess it was Traffic is to enforce the laws covering the States roads. Speeding is on of there.

    Hope this helps.
