Good race last night, even if it was a bit all over the shop. I was in semi-limit and, unlike two weeks ago where the whole bunch worked like clockwork, very few people seemed to want to work with only about a dozen taking turns at the front at the start. That broke down soon enough once people realised there was a load of passengers and it slowed down a bit.

It was then all the attacks started with about five riders from Tiernans all jumping off the front in turn. At the start of the second lap I even found myself in a break as I came off a roundabout with one of the gung ho Tiernans lads and discovered we'd a big gap. Decided to make a go of it for a bit, but my companion was jumping off my wheel to take his turn and flying by so it was killing me just to get back onto his wheel. Threw my hat at it after a while and let the bunch get back to us.

Semi-scratch and scratch caught us midway through second lap and the pace then got nice and hot. We used a different circuit last night and a lot of people weren't sure about where the finish was, myself included. Was waiting in the middle of the bunch for people to start streaming up for the sprint but no sign of anything. Then we saw the flag. At least I'll know for next time. Good fun all the same.

    Marshalling, photography: pick one.

I decided that stopping traffic was wiser than getting pics, but I did manage to snap one boardsie as he whizzed past...

wooooooooooooooooo 1st of the ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! better not get too used to it :P when godihatethehils get back, she'll kick my arse again.

I still cycled the last 10km solo last night. I think the groups spread out after the last corner for the final 10km of straight line.

Had a good view of the semi-limit group: through the rear-view mirror of my car. Being lead car on a route you don't know with 2minutes notice is harder than racing it!

It was the same story in scratch/semi-scratch-about a dozen of us worked hard to close it down with a lot of passengers sitting in. We were told at the start of the second lap that the gap was 4 mins (having read the above posts I suspect it was a Tiernan's marshall!). It eased up a little when we (unexpectedly) caught the semi-limit. I don't think many of us realised there was a small group away. Having spoken to a few riders afterwards I wasn't the only one racing to the Batterstown garage finish. It got a bit surreal after that and seemed a bit dangerous racing on a busy regional road for that long. There were two riders from the same club who managed to stay near the front who I hadn't seen racing before who seemed a bit wobbly and unpredictable. The survival instinct kicked in-going past them wasn't an option so I sat up. Anyone else notice a couple of wobblers?
