Anyone use water effects?

I'm trying to put together a WH40k diorama thingy and I had an idea for part of it which is an imperial guard looking in a pool of water only to see a genestealer staring back out at him.

Now, I have a bottle of water effects but I've never used it before, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I was thinking of just having a hole with a genestealer in it and filling it up with the water effect. I'm assuming that i'd have to do this in layers to let it dry, or does anyone know if it'll dry if I dump a load of it in?

Or is there a smart way of doing this that I'm not thinking about? Any ideas?

I love the diorama idea. Not used it but would guess small layers would be best. You could throw some watered down paint on each layer to give a nice deepening effect rather than have it all one clear puddle.

Just find some plastic bottle caps or plastic cups and experiment, drop a good inch into one cup and others with different thickness layers to get a good idea how they all turn out.

Am tempted to experiment by make a Space Marine dreadie shaped like a Bioshock Big Daddy but have plastic viewports to a water effect filled chamber with a withered Marine inside.

    Great idea. Thanks :)

Gunmonkey has it right, you need to experiment with this stuff and get the feel for using it before you build your diorama.

I've never used the GW water effects before, but I have used resins for the same purpose and they take some care and preperation to use properly.

Good luck, and be sure to post some pics of the finished product!:)

I'll post picks if it works. I'll delete this thread and forget it ever happened, if it doesn't. :D

    Thats the spirit!:)

Just remember if you're trying to make a deep pool you need to apply the resin in thin layers, leting each one dry thoroughly before applying the next.
It's time consuming, but it's the only way to get it right.

I sem to remember seeing a tutorial on using water effects on the GW website. Should be easy enough to find.
