    Hi All,

    Last wednesday night i got arrested for publically being druk, beating up a guys cab and provoking (3 charges).

    I got a court order that i have to show up for 150 euro fine, can anyone explain how this works?

    Do i have to wear a suit?
    Cant i just pay the fine of 150 euro's and not go to court?
    Why do i have to go to court? Are there any possible extra charges?
    Will this go on my permanent record?

    What happened is this;

    A (foreign) taxi driver tried to charge me too much for the ride because i was drunk, when i refused to pay he refused to let me out, i felt threatened so something snapped, and i was provoking him and beat up his car.

    This is the first time in 4 years that i've been in ireland that something like this happened, never been in touch with gardai in any other way.

    :(

    Thanks for the possible answers.

    P.S. I did not hit the guy himself or abused him, just the vehicle damage which might be a broken off mirror and a few dents.

    Did you get a summons or a fine or a charge? Is €150 the amount of damage you did?

    If you got arrested and brought to the station you were most likely charged and bailed. That means you have to go to court. I would think the €150 euro is either the cost of the damage or the amount of bail you will owe the state if you don't show up to court. Go to court and speak to one of the solicitors there. Or speak to one before hand.

    Apparently 150 euro is the bail bond if i dont show up, just called the police office i was arrested at.

    Will this all have great concequences? How much will a sollicitor cost over there? Will the court appointment be to decide the amount needing to be paid in damages?

    Having to go to court is not an Emergency Services issue.

    You may ask in Legal Discussion but they don't like talking about cases that are sub-judice.
