Electric porsche - Prius beating Supercar

It made a big stir at the Geneva Motor show.
An electric Porsche, even that alone is something to peak interest.
But when they revealed its green credentials, its time to take the hats off.

Best of all, this wasn't some engineering exercise to look good in the market. This concept car, mot likely, go into production.

    And it looks f#&king sweet too;

The Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid concept was one of the biggest stars of the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. It's now very close to being confirmed for production, says Porsche.

The car shocked in Geneva because it combined supercar performance with Prius-beating green credentials.

And now it's set for production, proving that sometimes you can have the best of both worlds. Porsche has received 900 firm expressions of interest - serious buyers - and has said it will probably build the car when that number reaches 1,000.

What those lucky people will be buying is a hybrid sportscar capable of the 0-62mph run in 3.2 seconds, yet which returns 94mpg and emits only 70g/km of CO2.

It achieves that by linking a 493bhp 3.4-litre V8 engine to two electric motors, which can power the car on electricity alone for up to 16 miles; a Prius can currently manage less than two.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Porsche's head of development Wolfgang Duerheimer said he is "confident that we will soon reach the threshold of 1,000."

Love to know the price. It's nice to dream.

    just to add into this....

firstly car is amazing....... pass the kleenex good...... :D

    question..

which is more enviromental sound, if you have to buy a car... assuming you you will keep it for say 8 years... 100,000 miles

    1. buy an old car, big engined luxobarge... say a 6 litre v12 co2 pumping merc.... (or it could be a small engined fiesta)

    2. buy a new low emmison car or EV........

does the enviromental damage of building/manufacturing and shipping a new car to ireland better than buying an already built old car that emits higher CO2 emiisions on use.......

I read an argument along those lines before
Basicly an Aston Martin has a smaller Carbon footprint than a Prius when you take into account the projected lifespan of the vehicle.

the other one floatin about in strange news territory is that an F250 Pickup truck is overall less polluting than a Prius if you factor Carbon footprints etc into it as the parts travel a lot less and there is a lot less energy required to build a simple V8 than a Hybrid with motors and batteries, I read that it would take mre than the lifetime of either car for the Carbon to be offset from the roduction of the Prius

yeah, heard similiar in relation to the Prius and a Hummer... and seen numbers on them for a 100,000 mile lifespan....

Its a sports car for gods sake

they are supposed to be light and aerodynamic

However operate them at speed and all that mpg nonsense goes out the window

    But therein lies the clue

we need light cars, travelling slowly, and then maybe we'll actually then improve on where we were 100 years ago
