Sony: Bungie-Activision Deal A 'Big Win' For Gamers, PS3 Users

Now that Bungie is a multiplatform developer no longer solely loyal to Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment America is expectedly excited about the prospect of a Bungie game on PlayStation 3.

"The partnership between Bungie and Activision is a big win for gamers worldwide," said SCEA in a prepared statement.

On Thursday morning, Halo creator Bungie and Modern Warfare publisher Activision signed a 10-year exclusive publishing agreement for a brand new, Bunge-owned action property.

"Combining Bungie's creativity with the incredible power of PlayStation 3 will add serious muscle to action gaming," said SCEA. "We look forward to extending Bungie’s 'next big action game universe' with PS3 users."

While it's widely assumed that, having confirmed "multiplatform" development, the new Bungie games will arrive on PS3, neither Activision or Bungie have openly talked about which platforms the new property will come to.

Following the Activision-Bungie announcement, Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications and social media at SCEA Tweeted, "Congrats to Bungie. Marrying their creative minds and incredible talent to the power of PS3 will be like giving PS3 fans Halo on steroids."

Kirkland, WA-based Bungie was previously a Microsoft-owned studio following an acquisition in 2000. The studio broke away from Microsoft and regained its independence in 2007, gaining the ability to create games on platforms outside of the Xbox 360.

The studio's next game is Halo Reach, due later this year. Bungie's first Activision-published game is likely "well along in its development," according to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter.

Those Sony statements are a laugh. The game will more than likely be multi-platform and will therefore look near enough the same on 360 and PS3.

But havent all the Sony fanboys always been whinging about how **** Halo was since it was a Xbox exclusive....so how will the developers new games now be great if their previous games were so bad?? Did they do massive restructuring??

I have an 360 and can honestly say that the Halo games do not have a thing on other games even others on the 360. Gears of wars is an awesome game whereas Halo 3 is not. However I can say that development studios that like Bungie that people have been calling revolutionary for a while now you generally give their games a chance without writing it off straight away. Although that said if it is basically Halo in an other universe or something I will be passing.

Have any PS owners ever complained about Halo being a 360 exclusive?

EDIT: Paddy beat me to it.

There is no possibility of Halo ever being produced for the PS3. Microsoft own the Halo franchise and have set up a whole other studio just for it.

Halo wont be coming out on PS3. They will work on a new game but after playing Halo and hating everything Activision do i wont be in any hurry to play it.

I'm predicting a story about a lone super soldier, the last of his troop "The Vikings", who is protecting humanity from a dire alien threat....

Sounds familar? Familar enough to sell games, however not familar enough to cause lawsuits ;)
