Heard a lot about the Sky+ HD 1TB box but can't seem to find it on Sky's website... Has anyone had that installed? Any idea how much it costs in UK(saw a post which says around £250+, seems a bit too much) and Ireland? And how will I be able to order one?

couldn't find it myself. they seem to be getting rid of the older ones at new customer's expense. scoundrels - and in turn probs charging at least twice the price of that old one for it. i called this evening, but the guy was just so damn busy he couldn't even briefly tell me whether they had em in stock here. or maybe here theyre hiding the stock from their own reps til the old ones are shifted?! wouldn't put it past em

sure enough its on the UK one.. would have to be somewhere as its bn officially released a fair few months now - but hidden away nonetheless whilst visitors are bombarded w/ images of the old model n sign-up offers > procedures only relating to that one.

Bit OT but don't want to start a new thread so here goes:

Sky keep saying that their current Sky HD box is "future proof" so how does this relate to 3D? I heard that the current box can or should be fine with 3D by August 2010. So why are they advertising the new 1TB HD box as being 3D ready as though the current one is not!?

While the new 1TB HD box is still cheaper than what the original HD box was sold for when released which was around €449 I still feel that while SD to HD can be justified, HD to 1TB HD isn't justified! Unless like they say the 1TB HD box will have a stronger 3D signal... not that I am interested in 3D. Get a head ache just thinking about it. Look at the costs involved - TV, Glasses etc and you are bound to have a guaranteed head ache :D

As usual Ireland is a 3rd world country when it comes to getting what everyone else gets in other countries. AFAIK per capita Ireland has more Sky subscribers than the UK. You'd think they would look after us as customers, hence why I wrote a cancelation letter to them as requested by Sky in Cork this week.
Old system which does not meet my requirements.

Guess you are forgetting another point. Their profits per customer are higher in Ireland. :) Competition is more in UK and is hardly existent here so I can see why sky have the upper hand.

To answer my own question and the reason for this thread. Its confirmed that the new 1TB box can't be got in Ireland and might not be available till after the world cup.

Maybe if you tell them you are going freeview / freesat they might get one for you? Worth a punt, why are they indicating a delay , is it rollout probelms such as availability?

Chap on the line wasn't much help. Its basically a case of computer says no... Guess its a rollout problem, installer contracts etc... btw he couldn't even give me a guide price so it can also be that sky just don't want to release it in Ireland yet.

just as i suspected. so you received official word - n as i say its simply not on the Irish site as opposed to the UK one, which of course it is. once found. they'd probs charge u full whack for it too if you demanded it whilst signing up for a HD sub - in the UK.

I read something like that too but I also remember seeing something like the current HD box displays a very low 3D signal/setting/frequency:confused: and so maybe the new one is higher. I don't know how they measure 3D but I hope you got what I meant.

The skyhd 1tb box is what 200 + euro??

Upgrade it yourself for about 100 euro or less makes sense dont it ?

And on the 3d thing what are all pubs in Ireland doing that are showing 3d matchs? I mean there hardly using the new 1tb boxs so the original hd ones are grand id say.
