Exact same as me, I just feel that Gomes has saved us more points than anyone else in defence this season and has occasionally taken my breath away with some of his saves. Dawson only just behind him though.

"One Michael Dawson, theres only one Michael Dawson" :D

    Gomes a close second.

I would give them joint player of year award if it were possible however Gomes got my vote, just by a tentacle.

I'm going to go for Dawson, he's gone from the bench to first team, to captain, to England WC squad contender. Brilliant season for him.

    Gomes a close second though.

Having said that, up until Christmas I thought Lennon was our best player, and since then probably Bale. But for the season as a whole, Dawson.

    Gomes for me

Daws for me. But Gomes gets a shout for most improved :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Mullo76

Daws for me. Defensive record is a lot of the reason we are where we are and I give a lot of credit for that to Daws.

2nd choice Gomes - Has won us some amnt of points this season also most improved player over full season.

Mention to Azza for a top first half of season (which seems so long ago now) and Bale for the second half. :)

The first half of the season Lennon was in fire and the second half Bale has been the star. Modric is a little gem and if he could score some more goals he would be up there with the best. Gomes gets the vote as he has come a long way since last season where he was a laughing joke to being one of the top keepers in the league.

    Dawson for me anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I voted for dawson but now that I think about it I should have gone for gomes.

Very close between the two though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 475 ✭✭ruiseal

    Gomes.

Gomes for me. He's been fantastic, and by far the most improved player that i can remember. He's also loving every minute of his time here. You can tell when he plays that he loves it, and the fans can tell as well. I dont think there's anyone us Spurs fans love more then Gomes.

this is a very very hard decision

i picked dawson but its just too close between himself and gomes.

gomes has been outstanding but has made a few mistakes (first goal away to sunderland ) set us on our way to a defeat. i know he has gained us plenty points also but i cant think of any mistake dawson has made :-)

I picked Dawson. You can see that he is improving all the time and has been a rock all season. Has the potential to be England's no 1 centre back for the next 5 years. Can see United breaking the bank to try to steal him from us after they get rid of Vidic.

Pompey's first goal in the semi?

I think Dawson has been immense this season but I felt I had to give it to Gomes for all the saves that kept us in games.

    I'd blame Wembley for that.

    Gomes

    Has to be Michael Dawson

Player of the season no doubt.

    any lost fans?....

Or if Bale and Lennon could be combined, then you have a full season of consistant goodness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Tough choice as the only two real contenders have both been fantastic all season, but I think I'll have to plump for Dawson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭keane=cock

    daws for me.

he has been solid as a rock. can forgive him for that slip in the semi at wembley.

only just ahaed of gomes. i think it will be close between them two. some will see it the same as me and some will see it other way around.

    modric for me ;)

Dawson for sheer consistency. I don't see how there would be any question about him being picked for the England squad.

Gomes for me by a short head over Dawson. Lennon and Modric have also been spectacularly good, but missed long spells through injury. Bale, Pav, and Bentley deserve massive praise for the way they have put their heads down, worked hard, and then grabbed their chance when called on.
Defoe was my choice until his injury, hasn't looked as sharp or strong since. Also a black mark for his ridiculous sending off at Pompey, causing him to miss three games when he was the hottest player in the premiership. He may alos have missed Lennon. Lennon still has most assists in theleague, despite missing all of 2010.
Other notables- nearly everyone really. BAE and Thudd have worked hard, and are improved. Charlie is being missed, maybe a more important presence than we realise. Ledley is ledley nuff said. Bassong has had a decent first season- although had a form wobble after the Anfield game, but has worked through it.
That leaves Gomes, my player of the season. We started the season with no fit centre backs, bought bassong, had Charlie, Thudd, Chimbonda, and Dervitte in front of him- then Woodgate for three games, then Dawson came fit to partner ledley/Bassong. Through all that, our goalie ensured a continuity and our defensive record, especially at home, is excellent. Still makes the odd blunder, but that's part of coming for everything, which gives his defence a great lift.
Played through pain earlier, as with Cudicini crashed out, was needed for every gasme. He's our keeper for the next decade, and will be a fopundation stone of a hoped for assault on the big prizes over that time.

Dawson just ahead of Gomes ( hope he's fit for Wed !!)

daws for me too, deserves to make england squad

I've given it to Gomes, some of his saves in key games this season have been nothing short of breathtakingly world class.

Treated as a joke and declared not good enough for the PL by some, he's had the last laugh with some truly memorable displays, a firm fans favourite.

Mick Dawson a very, very close second, continuity very important at the back this year with little or no King/Woodgate, he's been a rock. If he doesn't go to South Africa, I'll be very surprised.
