Howdy folks, this has been wrecking my head for a while now and any help would be great.
I have the bulk of my music saved to the "MY Music",all my CDs etc but any music that Ive downloaded i have saved to a Downloads folder in "My Documents". I want to tidy things up a bit and put all my music into "My Music" but Im assuming when I move the stuff from the Downloads to "My Music" then iTunes wont be able to find them so my question is,how do i get around this?
    Thanks in advance

If you go into the options in iTunes I believe it lets you tick a box to the effect of "put all my music into one folder once it's added to iTunes".

Edit: Preferences: Advanced: tick "Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library". That's how i think I did it (it's been a while).

Also, back up any music you have to an external hard drive; not only the downloads but your own cd's that you have physically imported. From experience its a pain to have to re-import them all if ever a Systems Recovery has to be performed.

Click on File - Add Folder/File to Library should allow you to add any songs.

Ive no problem adding songs. All my music is in my iTunes Library but the problem,i think,is that its coming from 2 different sources.
Apparently if i try to move the downloaded music to the "My Music" folder iTunes wont be able to find it

You've lost me there as I thought that once "Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library" was ticked, it was irrespective what you did with the original file; even deleting it

If you use "Consolidate Library" it will copy all the music to one place. When I download something from the net it's in my Downloads folder, so I import to to iTunes, then use the Consolidate Library command to copy them all to the iTunes folder. I also have this stored on an external drive, as recommended above, and it made moving PCs a doddle a while back.

I didn't know about the auto-copy setting, must investigate that.

Yeah I tried the "Consoldate Library" last night and that seems to have done the trick
    Cheers folks
