No contest... Paris by a million, billion miles. Prague is grand, but it's a bit of a hen and stag destination imo. Paris is just amazing, my favourite city in the world. If you haven't been before then definitly go with Paris. People talk about it being expensive, but in my experience, you can spend as much or as little as you like. There are expensive restaurants and inexpensive ones. Things like coffees and beers are expensive, but then wine is very cheap. When we go, we like nothing better than getting a hotdog fromage for hubby and a croque monsiur for me from a street vendor for lunch, and then sitting in a lovely park to eat and people watch. So that works out at about €12 incl a drink for the two of us. For snacks we always find our way back to a street vendor for crepe with nutella or crepe with ham and cheese, again about €10 for the two of us. FOr dinner, we always managed to get a great 3 course meal with wine for less than €60 for the two of us.

As for attractions, they are quite reasonable, For example the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Notre Dame Towers, Saint Chapelle, COncergerie are all less than €10 per person. And some of my best memories of Paris are just walking around soaking up the atmosphere and people watching, and that my friend is absolutely free!

Prague isn't in the same league for me.

I know the OP is long gone but I was in Paris for the first time (apart from changing at CDG a load of times!) last week. I was there with my GF and we were in Prague in February so can compare the two quite well.

Paris was indeed pricey compared to Prague for eating and although our accomodation cost the same, we got much more in Prague for our money. However, I would recommend Paris if you've never been before. The sights alone make it worthwhile and I'm not usually bowled over by sightseeing, but seeing the Eiffel Tower in the flesh is something special tbh.

We found a sweet restaurant (with a limited menu but great wines and a really friendly english speaking owner/waiter) called Les Ronchons, 25 quai de Tournelle 75005. It cost 66 quid for dinner and wine, right by the river. It topped off a great couple of days.

Dont know think i would actually prefer Prague. Paris is nice & you have to go at least once but definetely not my favourite. I thought Prague was lovely especially on a nice summer's day or evening. If you go, check out the castle, old town, petrin hill & praha tower for the views. Check out jewish district also for a different feel. Also, would be nice to do a boat cruise & maybe get dinner. Avoid wenceslas square- not so nice!!

Agreed, the old town square is a gem though as is most of the city centre, breathtakingly beautiful city. I had heard good things about Prague and assumed it would be similar to Budapest, but it's so much cleaner and well maintained. Prague knows that tourism is it's gig, so it does it well.

We stayed in a nice little hotel here and I couldn't fault it. Don't know what it cost though, the GF booked it, but I don't think it was too pricey at all. Nice buffet breakfast included and free underground carpark (though if coming from Ireland you probably won't have a car...we drove). Our hotel was close enough to the city centre to be able to pretty much walk everywhere though we took the metro a couple of times and the cool funnicular railway as well. The metro is actually kind of retro communist cool, if you know what I mean.

We visited in February, and even then it was ace, so I'd expect it to be even better in the summer. If you do the tour bus thing, do it first because the one we took took a "half hour" break at a place we'd already been to on foot, which was a bit annoying. I'm not sure if all the bus companies take a break there. It's the royal palace, loveley spot to enjoy for a half an hour but we'd already seen it all, d'oh!

We climbed the tower in the old town square and took some snaps, one of which is attached. I'm no photographer though!
