    hi
i am using imagine wimax for broadband.
i want to use my own cheap voip provider instead of imagine.
i use voipcheap and it works fine from my laptop
if i connect a ATA to my wimax router will i be able to use it with voipcheap?
i tried to connect the same with my nokia e65 wifi phone with sip but it failed
registration to sip server was fine but could not connect to a sip call on my mobile.
on discussion with imagine support, i was told that imagine uses 5060 for their phone port and other sip providers cannot be configured to use same 5060 port.
does this mean that my ATA will not work with imagine as all voip providers use 5060 port

    can someone guide me here?

Does voicheap allow use of a different port?

What software are you using on your laptop to connect to Voipcheap? As far as I know, Voipcheap uses port 5060 (see instructions for various clients/devices here : http://www.voipcheap.com/en/sipp.html)

So if it works from your laptop then an ATA should also work fine. The helpful support people may just have been imagining things.

on my laptop i use the voipcheap's software downloaded from their website. no configurations as such required for the installation.
but for voip ATA, i need to configure the port to 5060, so im bit unsure if the ATA will work as the wimax support tell me that 5060 is only for imagine voip.
i dont want to buy a ATA and then realise it doesnt work with imagine

I don't know about voipcheap but blueface lets you use ports other than 5060, I've 4 SIP devices connected to blueface on my network ATM and they're using 5060,5061,5062 and 5063.

I am using Voipcheap with a Linksys PAP2T ATA on port 5061 and everything works perfectly.
