    The Football Championship begins!

Do New York have any chance at all?

It's a pity that RTE aren't showing this... unless it's on teh web is it?

It's on at 9 p.m. our time, regardless you can't blame RTE for not showing it!

I think most of the championship gets underway from the 16th onwards. Oh, that magical time of year again when your Summer friends (Lyster et al) invade your sitting room. Like old friends you haven't seen in years, it takes but five minutes to realise they haven't changed one bit :pac:

Really cant blame RTE for not showing this one. It'll be a stroll in the park for Galway, and cost wise it makes sense to keep the money for later in the Championship.

It is great to have the championship back though, was up at my first championship game of the summer last night (Munster minor hurling), great to know sunny (hopefully) Sundays are on the way again

I always wonder when the day might come where these games are not a "walkover" or a "nice trip with a win guarantee".

Galway bay fm might be covering it

The New York hurlers beat Derry a few years back, causing the Ulster final to be put back to October as the New York guys couldnt make it over to play the game cause none of them had a green card to get back into the States!

Doubt it...There record of football coverage in the past has been brutal! MWR seem to cover more Galway games

Hard to know if GBFM will cover it, they'll probably have updates alright. In fairness they're usually excellent when it comes to things like this though. Anyway, it's a game Galway should win with a bit to spare. Apparently NY have been training and working hard and are confident of giving a good acount of themsleves, and I hope they do turn out to be at least reasonably competetitive. But realistically Galway should win this handy enough. The margin doesn't really matter that much, this will be all about get the win out of the way, then food and pints galore on the cruise ship.

Well despite New York having the bigger pick, I fancy Galway here by 10 points just in case the football pools are starting again.

Well I think it's just as well that we didn't get to see that, judging from reports...

And now Galway have to wait nearly 8 weeks for their next game. Surely something's wrong with that?

By the sounds of it they could do with a few weeks now to sort themselves out, and make sure Meehan and Armstrong are back fit.

And I just found out this morning that this game had no provision for a place in the qualifiers, so Galway were out of the championship altogether had they lost. And all reports suggest they were damned lucky not to lose.

Saw a story that NY had a minor team play Galway at the weekend. Can anyone tell me about the NY team, is it all Irish-American lads or are there people with no obvious Irish connection playing as well?

Just on that minor game, anyone hear the story about the lads exchanging their shorts before their jerseys?
