Twisted ankle

What are other people's experiences of sprained ankles, how long they had to put up with it and if it had to be operated on and/or casted (is that done for sprains?)

First off, I know I'll be seeing a doc about it any time soon so no need to shout that at me! ;)

Basically I went over on my ankle (didn't give the dead leg enough time). Doc at the time said it could take months to heal properly, recommended a support and anti-inflammatory.

That was 6 months ago and it still feels like it's burning, especially first thing in the morning. I can walk on it fine but the misalignment for the long-term future is a bit of a worry.

    It is what it's.

6 months is a long time to still be in discomfort, I've had a few twists playing football but I think the longest I was out for was a month and that was a bad one, other than that usually a few days???...

Maybe in an effort to keep you from playing sports or bed bound your girlfriend is getting up late at night and re-twisting it for you

Long time for a sprain man, sounds like you might have a fracture there?

6 months sounds like more than a sprain.

First time I did my ankle took a couple of weeks till I could walk without a limp. Second time was a good month or so.

A bad sprain can take longer than a break to heal. I was in pain for almost three months last time I sprained my ankle and it's still not 100%, a year later. I feel a twinge it if I play squash for example. A friend of mine has had a sprain for over six months at this stage.

    Maybe try an osteopath?

Normal amount of pain for sprained ankle can last from 5 days to 5-6 weeks usually, but the first week is the most important for recovery. In the first 3 days you should use ice on it 3 times a day, 10 mins on, 10 mins off, 10 mins on...use a compression bandage and take any anti inflammatories if prescribed.

After that its all about rehab for the ankle. It will never get back to the way it was, and may only regain 40% of its previous strength...

But 6 months sounds a bit excessive unless it was a Grade 1 or Grade 2 sprain on a ligament...I had a Grade 2 before on my right ankle and I was unable to walk properly for 5 months. But if you are getting a burning sensation I would get it checked out for possible nerve or vein damage to the ankle.

Sounds like ankle gonorrhea. Never give footjobs to strangers, especially barefoot!!!

For some reason, that sounded like Patrick Bateman in my head as I read it
