    They're all recordable.

Thanks for that. Was under the impression that channels added to the 'Other Channels' list cannot be recorded

You're right there, I can't record any of my other channels, can't even browse when you're on them.

only channels on the EPG can be recorded on the box

therefore you cannot record BBC3 or BBC4, ITV and so on

True, but you can record any channels Sky "provide" you with. You can't record channels that aren't on the EPG on the cable box either* :P

*of course, you can't watch them either, obviously.

    They can't.

Channels included in that are ITVHD UTV etc.

You can record them but it is like the old days of having to use an external video recorder or DVD recorder - just leave the channels playing on the sky box and set timer on DVD recorder etc at correct time and it will be recorded.

Not as convenient but we managed for years in this way before SKY+

Of course you cannot watch anything whilst it records etc etc but life is full of choices...

So you can record Pay per view movies and sport? Champions League matches?

BBC HD has moved onto the irish epg in the last couple of days and is now recordable, just in case you weren't aware.

BBC 3 BBC 4 itv 1 2 3 4 and HD, and channel 5 are the main ones you can tune into other channels and therefore not record.

PPV = don't think so. They're not "channels" as such.

Champions League is on TV3 is it not? So yes. You can record Sky Sports and Sky Movies subscription services (monthly fee ones).

while you're correct it wasn't particualrly helpful to the OP's question

    Champions League matches?

    they are not PPV

some are available on rte and tv3

Sky sports also show them and indeed where there is a choice of games via 'the red button' you can record one game and watch another

He asked if you could record all the channels "on Sky". Which you can. Channels off the EPG aren't on Sky, they aren't going to be available to you without you adding them.

If he'd actually asked "can I record other channels I tune in on a Sky+ box", then my answer wouldn't have been helpful.

you left me too stunned to reply at the time,

why would you deliberately give such a smart-alec and misleading rpely to a new user when I think it was pretty clear what was being asked?

why did you not just give the jist of

It wasn't "smart alec" or "misleading"

I didn't remember that there was the chance people would be using the box to record other channels.

Its still not "misleading" even with that idea as you can still record all channels that are "on Sky".

fair enough, I and others corrected the matter

if I misinterpreted your 'explanation' post then fine, apologies

anyway this has taken up enough of the thread

you can record the other channels - see here

its a bit of a hack and you can't set up recordings in advance or series link though.

can you explain how i can record "other channels" with my dvd recorder
want to record itv 3 or 4 sometimes but sky tech say it cannot be done?

    Post 9 above explains it

basically you have to have the Sky box tuned to itv3 and then record on the dvd recorder

you cannot change channels on sky while recording though

I have tried different set ups using scart leads but dvd recorder does not seem to recognise the sky plus box,is there a certain way of connecting equipment up?
at the moment i have video scart from sky going to av2 on dvd then av 1 from dvd to av1 on tv but still no joy?
if i'm connecting it wrong could you give an idea which way to connect correctly?:)

    ah, I see

sorry I dont have a dvd recorder myself so cant help you

I did think it was as simple as sky to the dvd via scart and then dvd to TV

there are other threads which seem to suggest difficulties with some brands
