    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good camping spot in Galway. I'm sure there are loads just not sure which one to go with.

    Thanks.

the problem with wild camping is the lack of facilities and the litter.
people still camp on the swamp.

Galway city or county? There's a campsite on the way out to Knocknacarra, just after Salthill golf club. Another camp/caravan site is in Ballyloughaun, Renmore, near the beach.

As for wild camping around the city and in the swamp, does anyone remember the early 90's when that really went berserk? They had to introduce laws and come down hard on the campers there were sooooo many!!! On lough Atalia, the Canals, The swamp, Spanish arch and every other public park (except Eyre sq). It was really mental, but kinda the craic too:rolleyes:

We used to go to letterfrack/lettergesh Spelling is very wrong there.

There's a caravan park there that practically has it's own beach. It's been over 10 years since I've been there but I don't see why it wouldn't still be there it was a proper camp site with facilities.

We were chatting about a friend who camped years ago in the swamp. They signed on for a few months before moving to work in Dublin. Their address in the dole office was 'blue tent, The Swamp, Galway' :D

down by the claddagh and the swamp was in a few guide books as being free of charge. they are rarely moved on. woe betide any of us doing the same in a park in Germany or France.
