hey guys, just throwing caution to the wind here and asking if anyone could lend me a lens that is decent in low light for tomorrow night? The place I work for/study in is having a formal Ball for people with disabilities and I've been asked to take some photos- all I have is a 35-80mm f5.6, so i'm not going to get anything decent of the dancing etc with that... I'll also need to be taking portrait shots of everyone arriving in their finery, and I really don't want to mess this up!!

basically, anyone have a Canon nifty fifty they could lend me? I'm reliable, I swear! :) I wish I could go buy one, but sadly not...

    I'll bake you a cake! :D:p

    Zo

If everyone is going to be arriving and posing in the same spot, see can you borrow a flash & remote trigger on a light stand or tripod, then you can use your own lens?

The results might be significantly better than f/1.8 and a high ISO.

You'll need to be upwards towards ISO 800 for f/1.8 handheld for 1/60 in a reasonably well lit indoor environment. A flash would be much more useful to you.

PCPhoto: thanks a million, I really don't want to be rude but I don't think it'd be ok for anyone to randomly show up, because it's people with disabilities there are kinda strict rules for who takes photos etc. unless we pay (cos then if photos show up somewhere we have a contract, not that I am remotely saying that woud happen BUT I just need to be totally upfront, you know??? Plus there's a whole insurance thing, because I'm technically part of the staff team I'm ok, but unless we engage you in a contract you wouldn't be, and it's all VERY complicated and I really hope I haven't caused offence here...), and the reason the student (moi!) is being drafted in is to save on costs, you know?

PopeBuckfastXVI: I know what you mean, but I think we want a mix of photos, both posed and during the dancing, and since the 50mm has been touted as good for gigs etc I thought maybe it might work... I will be bringing my tripod and my flash, but I don't want massive amounts of gear with me either, you know?

Sorry I got really flustered there and wanted to make sure i didn't cause offense- I think PCPhoto meant he would come along to help and lend me a lens...

I'd love to borrow the 1.4, are you sure? Like I said, I'll swop it for a cake!!! (You can expect the lens back, I won't expect the same for the cake...) :p

what I was offering was to turn up - help you take pics.....giving you lenses, flashes, advice and ensuring you get decent images to give to clients. (assuming of course I'm available to help)
