Any of you ever tried this system for buying online? I ordered a card yesterday, will give it a go once it arrives. Could really do with a way to buy online, don't have a credit card, and paypal conflusters me.

Is it a reliable system? I would mostly be using it to buy cheap photo-equipment [hence why posted in here]

Hey cagey, I use 3v all the time, it's a very very handy system. I've never had any problem at all. Just make sure and use the 3v.ie online system to keep track of balances, especially if you're buying stuff in different currencies.

You use it like its a card, you just don't have a physical one to use in shops.

    Enjoy!!! :D:D:D

Nice one. Any idea how long it usually takes to receive the card? On the site it states 'up to 2 weeks' but I'm sure that's only to cover themselves in case of high demand?

Anyone got a list of sites that accept this payment method?

It is run in conjunction with / by Visa, so whereever you see the visa sign (i.e. everywhere) online you can use the card.

My on took a while to arrive, probably about 2 weeks if I remember correctly, but I ordered it when it was in the height of fashion. If you are looking for a list of places to top up the card, there should be a list of places where you can buy "credit" on the website, 3v.ie, enjoy !! ! !

I have one but don't use it any more because if you buy a voucher you are given a visa card number and when that voucher starts to run out you can't transfer small amounts over to a new number when you pay for a new voucher. Every voucher you get has a different Visa card number which means you are for ever changing the card number if you want to use PayPal. Ruby card, on the other hand is far more versatile. OK, you have to buy the card first for 12.95, I think, and after that you use it as you would any other credit card. you can use it online, in shops, anywhere in the world that take visa, you can use it in cash machines to get money, and you just top it up in a bank or on line through your online banking. The limit that you can have on it is also much higher.

You can transfer balances onto new cards through the online system. There is a small charge, but it's better than loosing whatever money you have left. I've done this on numerous occassions.

the paypal thing is a small inconvienience, but since the expiry date is for 2 months, it's not a major thing. You can also put balances into your actual paypal account, so again, not a big deal.

But that rubycard does seem pretty good, especially since you can use it in bricks & mortar shops...

Just changed from 3v to the new mastercard version which seems better. all the balance remains on the card without having to transfer from one ticket to another and you can withdraw from atm too.

^^^ is that the rubycard or is there a whole new one?

Rather use the PayZone Mastercard instead.

Where did you apply to get that?

The other half took care of it but he bought it in a local shop, texaco I think and then registered the card and received his authorisation details within a few days. He stook 200 on it straight away and paid for a few things, handy thing is we can use it for bills too and pay online without having to worry about transferring a few euro from one ticket to the next. If you buy 200 and spend 150 you can take the rest out at the atm, much much handier tbh.

3V cards are absolute rubbish because the card numbers change and you can't constantly add money to the funds. Payzone cards have the same number, can be topped up, used in ATM's etc.

Must look into the other options in that case. I'll try the 3V out when it arrives, just stick €20 on it and buy something small online.
