Myself and the OH have decided to go on holiday by sea this year for something a bit differnet.. Are there any ferry routes that go directly from Ireland to a sun destination ie Spain, Itally, South of France etc.. or as close as we can get anyway?

I had a quick look last night and there is an Irish Ferries route from Rosslare to Cherbourg but then it's a 9.5 hour train trip down to Nice which costs over €100 each, that's just the train fare.. :o

    Cheers for any info.. :)

Nope, there's no ferry to sunny destinations. Why would you pay hundreds and be days on a ferry instead of 4 hours with Ryanair for not a lot of money?

The only way to go by sea to sunnier climes is on a cruise ship.

Unless I am raving I think there was mention of a ferry from Cork directly to Spain....maybe it was just in the "talks" phase but sure I heard something....

Not much help I know :)

No direct sailings from Cork to Spain - Brittany Ferries do sailings to Bilbao & Santander but only from the UK. All Irish sailings are from Cork/Rosslare to Roscoff or Cherbourg.

Are you bringing a car? If so, then you've no problem at all - a 5 hour drive would take you down to the Vendee region where the weather is lovely (we're off to there ourselves at the end of August). If you're planning to take the train, then Cherbourg is probably your best starting point but that's a pain in the bum TBH as you'll have to go via Paris for anywhere else sunny
