I know nothing about the game but I have just found out that Ireland were beaten by Afganistan today.

Surely it's time to hang up the cricket bat on this side of the Irish sea.

If we can't beat a country that have totally destroyed by war and terrorism we need to take a long hard look at ourselves.

You're probably not the best person to be judging this issue on then?

Funny that the West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh or Zimbabwe didn't feel the same way when beaten by us.

It's a cyclical thing, Afghanistan have beaten us a few times recently, we'll bounce back.

It's interesting that admit you know nothing about the game, then feel qualified to pronounce the death of it based on a result in a warm-up match.

Yeah after getting to the super 8's of the last world cup the team should now just cease to exist because they lost a warm up match to Afghanistan. Right...

It's a T20 match - the most unpredictable form of the game. I would rather lose a warm up (and Afghanistan only won with 3 balls to spare) than the real thing - who knows, maybe next time it's Ireland's turn to cause the upset

The Aussies lost their warm up game against Zimbabwe. In a tournament absolutely earth shattering, in a warm up, not a big deal. The very same with Ireland losing to the Afghans.

Teams don't call it a day because of a shock result in a friendly match.

    http://www.cricketeurope4.net/CEIRELAND/DATABASE/2010/INTERNATIONAL/CARDS/AFGIRE2.shtml Ireland have beaten Afghanistan,

just thought I throw the link in for this...

Afghanistan have been steadily improving over the past few years, rising up through the divisions in the assosicate cricket league. Expect them to be in the upper echelons of the assosicate game for years to come. Its hardly surprising that they are decent when you consider the strength of cricket in the sub continent region.

Dont worry OP, you can go back into hiding and pop up with your cricket ignorant comments the next time Ireland take a scalp or shock horror lose a game to a fellow associate nation. Or better again maybe to give out about Irish players playing test cricket for England

Ireland have lost some key players to the english and retirement over the last few seasons. While Afghanistan have been on the rise for the last while, really putting a good effort into it.

Not a major worry really losing to them, besides we more then likely wont make it out of the group stages this time around.

Top team in a division loose to the second team in a division.

Definately time to shut down then.

OP's post is a glorious orgy of utter ignorance.

Firstly not having a a clue about international cricket, they chose to comment on it.

Secondly, not having a clue of the political/war situation in Afghanistan chose to comment on that.

Remember Netherlands beat England at the last 20/20 wc. Can't see us getting beyond the group this time but who knows
