Looks a great system, considering my 11year old Technics system is starting to show it`s age and near due retirement to only cd playing, what price would this be locally on average?
Can anyone vouch on how good it is/or not?

    Iboid says €550.

Available online elsewhere for around €320 upwards, so not as great a deal as they make out (as usual).

competitors charging €320 and up. IBOOD charging €265. That's a deal in my book.

So you're saving 20% on other online prices, and it's not a good deal?

What I can't figure out about it is, how can you get FullHD from an upscaler?

You get upscaled 1080p, that is all. That logo is just marketing gimmick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

So what's the difference between upscaled 1080p and FullHD 1080p?
I always thought 1080p was 1080p, and an upscaler can't "create" 1080p as there's no info information in the source being upscaled.

Either way it's sold out :p

Yeah, but we can still get it for €320 upwards, which is just as cheap as €265! ;)

Its a good question really, in essence upscaling is just "improving" an SD picture to HD standard.

But in reality advertising 1080p upscaling in something like this is somewhat misleading because every high definition tv has an scaler built in, so put it this way, if you asked this home cinema system to feed an upscaled 1080p signal to a good quality 1080p tv, it wouldnt really make any difference, because if you asked it to just send a normal sd signal, the tvs inbuilt upscaler would probably do a better job of upscalng the picture than the home cinema system, so in this scenario, the home cinema systems 1080p upscaler is pretty useless. A bit hard to explain but do you get that?

Also putting any signal through on HDMI will appear a lot better than scart.

That can be true if using a crap quality scart signal

So, the only benefit of their so called 1080p upcaling, is that you're able to use hdmi as the connection method

That's pretty much how I see it.

Haven't a clue. It was just a bit of ribbing towards gunnerfitzy who posted earlier in the thread.

Yeah, I get it. Completely misleading so.

Exactly where did I say it's not a good deal? Just saying it's not worth €550.

    Right there?

Also, where is it available for €320?

I'm not interested in it, so I didn't check any of these places for shipping costs, or even if they do ship at all, so please don't complain to me if they're not available.

I think you'll find that it was p15574 who made that post and that you and I were of the opinion that this was indeed a deal

No. That doesn't say it's not a good deal. It says it's not as great a deal as they make it out to be.

Well the only proof you've shown for it not to be a great deal was a business registry site full of dealers we've never heard of.

I think it's a great deal. A friend of mine has it and it's really good quality. He spent nearly €600 for it (with the wireless box) and that was straight from the warehouse with a staff discount.

But it is/was a great deal. It was a minimum 20% less than that rubbish comparison site you linked to, and as you said yourself, you don't know if they even ship to Ireland. Normally when someone tries to prove a point, they post evidence that supports their case, not disproves it.

You can try to be as pedantic as you want, but you're wrong. It is/was a good/great deal.

    Tis sold out though.

He didn't say it wasn't a good deal. He said it's not as great a deal as they said. IBOOD said the retail price was 550, but it can be found elsewhere for 320. Reducing it from 320 rather than 550 is not as great a deal, but still a good deal. Can you people actually read?

Can you? We followed by asking him to point us to where we could find it for €320 and all we got was a comparison site from unknown dealers around Europe, on a site I wouldn't click a link on as it was very unofiicial looking.

Do you know where we can find it for €320? I'd love to know.
