There's a brand new Call of Duty game coming this year. This Friday, you'll get your first peek at the follow-up to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, courtesy of GameTrailers TV.

While Activision may be embroiled in drama related to its most recent Call of Duty, that won't stop the company from churning out annual sequels to the ultra-popular first-person shooter. In 2010, Call of Duty: World at War developer Treyarch is on tap to deliver a new iteration, already penciled in to ship before the "holiday."

It represents the first Call of Duty game to be released under publisher Activision's new "strategic plans" for the franchise.

GameTrailers TV's promo promises a "global announcement" and "the first teaser trailer" for Call of Duty 7, so make sure you're up at 12:40 a.m. with your eyes glued to Spike TV to catch it.

Activision trying to save face quickly over the IW scandal perhaps? Oooerr.

Nice one can't wait to see it.

What was the IW scandal? I heard a lot of the staff were sacked but that's all.

Must have a look into it. Not that they were great with releasing patches and updates but MW2 is a great game so i shouldn't be complaining.

At least Treyark are making the next one so it shouldn't affect it.

Treyarch didn't start the CoD franchise, it was IW, Treyarch didn't join in the fray until CoD3.

Not to mention, IW always made the better game in comparison. It'll be interesting to see how the next one plays out because with IW gone, I can't see a bright future for Activision if they plan to keep making CoD games

I didn't mean 'thank god Treyarch are making the next cod, IW would make it crap' what i meant is at least Treyarch are making the next one SO the next cod being released isn't going to be delayed if staff are being layed off.

There was rumours of Vietnam, but they can't do Vietnam, cos then Activision would have to pay Infinity Ward including those who've left, its part of their written contract. You'll probably never see a Vietnam for this reason

Meanwhile, a new studio called Sledgehammer games is also working on a third Call of Duty title - speculated to be an MMO
The future of COD will see it being console only and You'll have to insert credit card to play online, You'll get a weapon, but have to buy ammo and perks will cost cash, watch this space

Be interesting what treyarch will bring to the table, id expect that there will be a full blown nazi zombie mode this time but there will be alot more competiton this year with the new medal of honor( multiplayer by DICE) and halo reach whereas there was little last year when mw2 launched

Rumour has it it's gonna be some sort of Cold War thing, surely that would violate the contract too?

    Treyarchs track record.

Take the engine built and improved upon by IW. Skin it for the time specified, modify some base mechanics for weapons etc, build some levels. Basically, the easy stuff for a game developer.

Try to change some more engine based things. Break the game. When WAW was first released their was 800,000 google results in the first six hours for people who can't connect. In a day it was close to six million. And it wasn't a server problem either. Took close to six months to patch up most of them. Which for a Activision lapdog this isn't surprising, launch is Beta testing now.

If IW has really been decimated then you really need to consider that all your going to see now is re-skins and no new engines as the actual talent for that has now gone.

i dont know how much longer they can keep on using the cod4 engine as this will be the 4th game using it and it will start to show its age

If treyarch really wanted to show that they have some creative balls they'd make a new engine instead of trying to improve an outdated one.

As long as gamers keep buying it, they'll keep re-skinning it

MW2 was actually built with a modified version of the Quake 3 engine. Which is 12 years old.
