Steve Carroll has stated that he will not be renewing his contract when it expires after Season 7 of The Office. I assume that they won't continue with the series without him, well they shouldn't anyway as it is bad enough now with him never mind without him.

The Office was great from Season 1-4 but went down hill after. Had some brilliant moments. This one comes to mind:

Yeah, looks like it'll end. I highly doubt the show will continue without Carell - at least I hope not! I still really enjoy the show, but I definitely see it winding down now.

About time (well, about 4 years too late).

Was never as good as the English version but they did a decent enough job of it. A lot of them seeing to be doing well enough. One was in Inglourious Basterds and another had a small part in film recently.

Meh none of them have been in anything big though, except Carroll.

BJ Novak was in Inglorious alright but thats about it.

Rainn Wilson is getting quite a lot of work lately and John Krasinski seems to be a rising star; he was in that flick recently with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin and he's filming another with Colin Farrell and Kate Hudson at the mo.

Ed Helms in was, of course, The Hangover.

Also Rashida Jones was in I Love You, Man, and Jenna Fischer was in Blades of Glory.

IMO The US Office was much better then the orginal UK verison. Dwight being the highlight. But yes it has dwindled in recent years and perhaps it is time to call it a day. Another season will give them plenty of time to wrap it up and of course feature David Brent!

Your post and sig combine to make a brilliant idea... David TRENT takes over the office and, well... suffice it to say things would be wrapped up pretty quickly.

If the US Office has finished in it's glory days, I'd have agreed!

But The UK Office was just utterly genius until the very end... not the case with the US remake.

    This comes to mind:

I love love love this programme. Jima nd Pam have to be the cutest couple on tv.

I love Dwight, he is the funniest on the show, some of the things he comes out with have me in knots.

I have enjoyed every series so far and will be sad to see it go :(

Maybe back in season one; now she's a wagon and he's a dry****e. Besides,e veryone knows the pieman and Anna Friel are the cutest couple (in repeats) on TV ;)

You cant really compare the two , the US version ,other than having the same basic idea and a few similarly named characters went off in its own direction.
    They're really completely different shows.
I was never a big fan of the UK one , it just veered too much into cringe comedy (basically boss thinks he fantastic when in fact he's an arse and makes a fool of himself everywhere).
Having said that the US one has probably done all its going to, is getting a bit tired now and probably needs to end.

It's certainly more laugh out loud funny then the UK version, but I think it lost everything that made the UK version so clever. It lost the documentary / "this could really happen at my office" feel, and it's just too slapstick. No episode will ever make you cringe like David Brent's dance, and that was the beauty of the UK one.

I absolutely hate the Jim and Pam characters as well; I won't miss the smug looks at the camera. Am I the only person who thinks that they've unintentionally turned him into the prick of the office?

Jim and Pam are arseholes, I've never liked them.

I love Dwight (and Moze), Michael, Creed, Andy and Stanley.

It's a shame to see this go, but once Jim and Pam got together and we had to watch them do horrible coupley things the show started to get old, fast.

I think Dwight should get a spinoff about Schrute farms though, I'll miss him :(

Yeah I notice this when I catch a few minutes here and there. Is this a plot point in the newer seasons or have they just forgotten how to act/write them as likeable?

love this show and think its been very strong. I dont think it can be compared to the UK version anymore as it has come into its own since season 2 or 3.

I think it could survive without Steve, he's not really that much at the fore front anymore.

But going back to an earlier post about other projects that the cast have been involved with, John Krazinski has done alot of work behind the camera as well, most notably Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, and Rain Wilson also has been in other shows (appearance in Entourage) and has starred in a few movies, most notably The Rocker which is pure genius.
But all shows have to come to an end sometime.

I love the US version and have enjoyed most of it but the quality has taken a significant nose dive this year - season 7 is already stretching things so it makes perfect sense to end it. It would make no sense to continue without Carell... though I'd watch a Creed spin-off :D.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a271524/keitel-to-replace-carell-on-the-office.html
The Office's executive producer has said that Harvey Keitel would be the perfect replacement for Steve Carell.
Paul Lieberstein told E! Online that the Mean Streets star is the best possible choice to take over as Dunder Mifflin's boss when Carell exits the series next year.
"He's probably the only guy who can do it, and he's doing TV now," he said.
Lieberstein, who also plays Toby on the hit comedy, admitted that he has not had any formal talks with Keitel yet, but believes the actor would bring a new energy to The Office.
He explained: "I haven't started any talks with his people, but Harvey would do a great job - a very different energy… And we don't want to bring in another Michael, having someone play a very similar character because we have such a high regard for Steve [Carell]."
The executive producer added that he was confident Keitel is capable of adapting to comedy even after years of acting in dramatic roles.
"He's a real tough guy, but I saw him in Life on Mars and I saw a lot more comedy in his work, just little slivers of it, little things he would do that made me think he’s capable of a lot more than what [he's done]."
A new character has already been devised for the Oscar nominee, according to Lieberstein.
"He's an old salesman who thought he could retire and the stock market went down, and he has to come out of retirement to work for a few years."
The seventh season of The Office will premiere in September on NBC.

Without Michael it wont work imo :(

Harvey Keitel? Yeah, because he worked so well as Gene Hunt in the US 'Life on Mars'!

    Horrible choice IMO!

Just rewatched some season 3 episodes.
What the hell happend to Andy Bernard??? He started off brilliant!
Overconfident, ferociously competitive, self-oblivious sycophant, totally unstable with major anger problems and a hair-trigger temper.
Some of his early scenes are comic gold.

Look what he's been reduced to, a slow and steady decline into poor mans Michael Scott! + the whole Erin storyline?
Kinda seems up where the office is heading in general.. :(

You could say the same for Jim, Pam and even Dwight (though it's debatable if Pam was ever really a funny character). I just started watching Parks and Recreation recently and it's oddly more The Office than The Office is now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

    Pam was never funny.

Yep, 'Parks and Recreation' had a slow first season, but a cracking second season!

Much better than the last 3 of 'The US Office' combined.
