Problem: my laptop only works withOUT the battery in it :-/

I took my laptop apart to clean the fans. Then I put it back together. However, it now only works when the battery IS NOT in it. So basically, it won't work with the battery. And it will only work with the charger if the battery is not in it at the time.

If I plug the charger into the wall (without having the other end in the laptop), the green light comes on the charger. If I then plug the charger also into the laptop while the battery is in it, the green light instantly goes off (on the charger) and the laptop won't work.

The battery worked great up until I took the laptop apart and put it back together. It held a full 90 minute charge at least up until then.

    Anyone got any ideas??

    P.S. It's a Dell Inspiron 1501

I would take it back apart, tbh, and go try and find out what you did wrong.

Yeah I did that a few times already haha :)

    ...but to no avail.

I followed the instructions exactly as on the Dell website.

I was, however, left with one or two screws at the end.

Did your laptop work when it was plugged in and had the battery out?

Yes, and works on battery if you plugged off the charger.
